I just thought of an american singer that's not famous and has been making music for about 10 years and is only appreciated in europe. I hate when people say things like this but if you like amy you might like Beth. She's got pretty much the same story as amy, but is sober now. She gives me hope in regard to Amy. Her songs are less meaningful than amy's to me, but her records are pretty good. This one's one of my favorites.
