My friend also saw Avril in concert at the Ottawa Civic Centre that first summer when Complicated hit big, so it was her 4th time seeing Avril live.
We agree.....bar none, the best we've ever seen her perform live, by a longshot! Great lighting, fantastic stage, great band, and a super high-energy concert....with some nice quite moments ( acoustic tunes and Avril at the piano ) as well.
Avril was 100 times more outgoing than in any of the previous times I've seen her. Playfull with the crowd, happy, smiling...in great voice, and I was amazed at how she now takes complete command of the show.
Very good sized crowd for sure as well, that was loud....responsive, and totally into the show.
Avril told the story of singing with Shania Twain when she was 14, at this very same arena in Ottawa. She then did a shout out to her dad ( who was sitting off to the, somewhere in the lower bowl ) with a nice 'Hi Dad'. Then she got the crowd to loudly yell.......HI DAD! It was a nice fun moment.
The dancers don't distract at all for me. I always liked Avril's stripped-down concert approach ( four piece hard rockin' backup band ), but I really enjoyed the larger scale of this concert, with her bigger band...and all the folks on stage at times ( waving flags, acrobatic dancing, backup vocals ). At other times....the backup dancers and vocalists left the stage completely, which gave the concert some variety.
Avril's rappin version of 'Girlfiriend' was cool....and I liked when she rolled out the drums to play a couple of tunes.
She's a lot more polished, and engaging now....and it worked great!
I rate it a 10 out of 10!

haha You saved me a lot of typing. I totally agree with what you said. All in all, it was amazing. And it ended up being way more than a concert. She pulled it off real well.
At first I was on the fence with regards to her using shorter versions of songs. In the end, though, it gave more variety and diversity to the show. And it's also rather beneficial on the business side of things.
And I loved how happy she was.
