“Let’s go upstairs,” I said. “I’m even more tired than I was an hour ago.” Deryck agreed. He took off his fancy dress shoes, and I pulled off my ankle-strap sandals. Hand in hand, Deryck and I walked up a flight of stairs to the second floor of our house.
Down the hall, three doors from the staircase on the right was the master bedroom. Our bedroom is the biggest I have ever seen. Deryck had allowed me to do most of the interior decor of our house, and I had put a lot of work into furnishing our bedroom. I love sleeping in, and it’s relaxing for me to spend time in my bedroom, so I had wanted it to look nice.
The floor of the room was polished oak, but I had put a large white throw rug on most of the floor. Our bed was made of the same wood, and had black and navy blue bedding. I had a television, on top of a cedar dresser, a bookshelf, and a cushy, egg-shaped reading chair as well as other comforts in my bedroom. The bedroom is even adjoined to a bathroom.
I collapsed onto the bed. I watched Deryck as he pulled off his clothes. Soon he was wearing nothing but his boxers. I smiled to myself.
Deryck looked at me. “What’s got you so happy?” he asked. He lay down on the bed next to me.
“You,” I replied. Deryck kissed me.
I pulled off my dress. I just barely had to energy to get up and put my dress on a hanger in our large closet. I would have just pushed it onto the floor, but the dress meant a lot to me, even though it wasn’t the one I had worn for the wedding ceremony. After that, without even bothering to put on pajamas, I crawled into bed next to Deryck. We curled up our bodies next to each other and fell asleep.
