The next morning I woke up the sound of smoke alarms.
“SHIT!” I heard Deryck scream at the top of his lungs. He came running up the bedroom to find me halfway out of bed in a panic. “It’s okay, Av,” he said. “You’re safe. But I burned your breakfast.”
No longer worried, I lay back down in bed and giggled. Deryck is not the greatest chef in the world, and this was not the first display of his lack of skills. He sat down next to me and I kissed him on the cheek. “I’ll make breakfast,” I told him. “You didn’t have to make a sad attempt to cook for me.”
“I know, I just didn’t want to wake you up. You looked so cute sleeping.” I smiled. I gave Deryck a kiss on the cheek. He truly is the best guy in the world.
I got out of bed for real this time and stretched. “I’ll make something, but I need to take a shower first, okay?”
“That’s fine,” he replied.
I made toast for breakfast (no, Deryck cannot operate the toaster without hurting someone or something). After that we spent the whole day on our bed, cuddling, kissing, and just talking. I had never felt so genuinely happy or truly in love as I felt that afternoon. We had a romantic dinner in our own home that night. I, of course, cooked it. (A husband with singed eyebrows trying to deactivate the smoke alarms is not particularly attractive or romantic.)
I think both of us knew that all of this romance was going to lead up to sex. Not that we minded, of course. After dinner, I changed into very...er, revealing clothes. We ended up in bed together. I think I’ll leave the rest of the details of the night to your imagination.
