Hollywood News > London, July 12: Teen singer Avril Lavigne might be the reigning queen of pop, but she doesn't care much for royalty. This was revealed after she turned down an invitation from Prince Charles to sit beside him at the 'Party in the Park' concert.
According to The Sun, the 19-year old singer and R and B artist Jamelia were invited to join the Prince as he watched the mega event on Sunday in London's Hyde Park, which included performances by artists like Alanis Morissette, Nelly Furtado, Lenny Kravitz, and Lionel Richie.
Avril, who was to perform at the rock fest, cancelled a few hours before she was scheduled to meet Prince Charles and had to be replaced with singer Will Young, at the last minute. She is reported to have rushed away immediately after performing her set and giving a brief TV interview.
However, insiders claim that the "Don't Tell Me" singer refused the invitation because of her dislike for being in the limelight, and not because she is a snob.
"The official line is that Avril had a plane to catch. But the truth is she is cripplingly shy and hates publicity stunts," the report quoted an insider as saying.
Eighty-five thousand fans attended the concert, the proceeds of which will to The Prince's Trust.
