Lavigne's Battles With Producers

Title: Lavigne's Battles With Producers

Author: Author Unknown

Publication: TeenMusic

Date: 09.30.2004

Avril Lavigne was constantly locked in bitter battles with production trio The Matrix, because she didn't want her songs to have a strong pop sound.

Scott Spock, Lauren Christy and her husband Graham Edwards, who have worked with such stars as Christina Aguilera, Hilary Duff, Nick Lachey and Liz Phair, found their studio time with Canadian singer Lavigne to be a great challenge.

Christy says, "Avril didn't want her songs to be so pop, and we felt that was the way to go with her. So we put our foot down and she put her foot down, and our feet were bigger, so we won."

They've also been aware of Lavigne's efforts to downplay the trio's contributions to her work, says Christy, who adds, "It became apparent to us very early on with the last record that the route she was taking was to not mention us. But that's fine."
