Though the star of the show didn't bring it up, Avril Lavigne's live concert at SBC Center on Tuesday was a referendum on Ashlee Simpson's "Saturday Night Live" lip-sync debacle.

Avril Lavigne performs Tuesday night at the SBC Center.
After a quick sample poll, the consensus: Well, the dumb Simpson isn't Jessica or Homer anymore. That's the good word out of the mouth of babes.
"I think Ashlee Simpson copies songs and lip syncs," said 9-year old Leila Newton of Austin who attended the show with friend Erica Weisman, who was looking forward to hearing "the 11th song on (Lavigne's) first album."
"Avril is more true. I admire her," Newton added.
Opening act Butch Walker was less diplomatic in front of an audience numbering about 5,000 and made up of mostly teen and preteen girls with moms in tow.
"I get mad when I turn on 'Saturday Night Live' and I see Ashlee Simpson and nothing coming out of her damn mouth," Walker said, adding that he and Lavigne don't just "press play."
In the audience, 21-year-old Lizzie Choffell said that Simpson was "pretty lame" compared to Lavigne and "comes off as annoying and obnoxious."
Kenyon Ford, 9, and McKenna Seger, 7 weren't so harsh, though Ford broke ranks with her younger friend.
"Ashlee is talented, too," Ford began. "But since people are supposed to be singing live at a concert, I don't think she should have been singing to a tape."
Priscilla Vidaurri, 25, said that Lavigne is real — and Simpson, well, isn't.
"Ashlee Simpson sounds good on tape, but she sounds like crap live," she said. "Ashlee Simpson sucks."
Priscilla's husband, Henry Viduarri, agreed: "Avril is a great artist. She blows Ashlee out of the water."
Lavigne proved it onstage from the beginning with her opening slashed power chords on her Fender Telecaster to start "He Wasn't" — fast, rocking and uncompromising with a definite Ramones feel.
Later, she would lead her band while playing a grand piano and even drums on an old Blur hit.
Her message, almost song after song was: Girls, stand up for yourself and don't settle for false happy endings.
Lavigne's 16-song set included hits "Don't Tell Me," "My Happy Ending," "Losing Grip," "Complicated," "Sk8er Boi," "I'm With You" and "Anything But Ordinary." There was no encore, but she'd made her statement: This skater girl ain't Memorex.
