On the Road with ... Avril Lavigne

On Tour, the Pop-Punk Singer Is Just One of the Girls—pink Guitars, Bedazzled Hoodies and All
Touring the world and performing in front of thousands of fans used to give
Avril Lavigne major wardrobe anxiety. "Every night I was like, 'What am I going to wear?'" says Lavigne, 23. "I was just wearing my own clothes." For her new 45-city Best Damn Tour, she finally tackled the getting-dressed stress by creating costumes—though the former Sk8r Girl hasn't gone all high-maintenance. "We just took a pair of my black pants and a hoodie," she says, "and we BeDazzled them!"
What else is different this time around? "On my first tour, I was on a bus full of guys," she says. "I had a bunk, and we just ate pizza every night—so unhealthy." Now the pop-punker has vegetables in her diet and savors quiet moments when her husband of almost two years, Sum 41's Deryck Whibley, 28, visits. "I cry when he leaves," she sighs. "We talk all day long. Like when I first wake up, I call him and every couple of hours we talk."
When she's not cooing on the phone, Lavigne watches TV on the bus, shops and does yoga. One definite no-no during her down time? Blog-browsing. "There's a lot of trash talk," she says. "People were saying I was pregnant. That's not true!" (Of course, she only fueled the fire by recently shopping at baby stores as a prank for
Ashton Kutcher's new show
Pop Fiction.) Babies will have to wait until "I'm, like, 30," she says, because for now she's focusing on getting more acting gigs like her recent part in
Fast Food Nation, doing a new clothing line for Kohl's called Abbey Dawn, playing live—and finding time to unwind. "My favorite part of the day," Lavigne says, "is [when] it's over, I can take a shower, put my PJs on. I love being on the bus."
A question about if she'll change her hair someday is asked.
''For me, it's all about hair, as opposed to makeup. I think dark, short hair would look really cool on me, because I have small features, and with my blue eyes. But I like long blonde hair right now. ''
''Before, I was like, 'Oh, I would never curl my hair!' I used to wear my hair in my face and I thought I'd never want to wear it in a ponytail because I'd feel like everyone was looking at me. Believe it or not, I'm really shy. So I always liked wearing my hair down. Now I wear it back a little bit. Sometimes I put it up. ''
''I like to mix up my look. If my hair's curly, I like to dress down a little more. If I'm going to wear a dress, I like it to be black, and I like to have some skulls on, or some Converse. When I paint my nails, I'll use the wet n wild black polish. But normally I like to get somebody to do my nails. ''
''I like black, and I mostly only ever wear black. I would still wear my old stuff, but I would probably wear the pants with a sexier top. I still have my size-36 skateboarding pants—really baggy cargo pants that hang really low. I'll never throw those out because they were my favorite pants in grade 10. I feel like a kid when I wear a T-shirt and baggy pants now. And I still have my studs—studded belts, studded bracelets. I still wear studded belts all the time. I used to wear, like, five on my arm, but I don't do that anymore.''
I think it has been posted, but I don't know so I posted it anyway! Sorry!
