Are an Avril booster or you are writing this article tounge-in-cheek?
please check your facts - Avril is NOT a singer/songwriter if she was she would not be writing songs with someone else! Ever heard of Neil Young or Joni Mitchell? Chantal Kreviazuk ? Jann Arden? - those are songwriters
and furthermore - all it takes is three notes in progression or a phrase or beat to establish plagerism - and there have been a couple court cases where the song has nothing to do with what it is plagerized from: My Sweet Lord -by George Harrison is a prime example of a three note phrase that was proved to be stolen, and that according to Harrison was unintentional.
Avril is nothing but a "manufactured pop star" a la Britney Spears with an anti-star marketing behind her - moreover how many singer songwriters are Guess Models?
obviously you are not a music crtic - you'd be out of a job

It is a known fact that Avril "wrote" some of her songs with Chantal Kreviazuk and her husband Rain Madia. If Avril is such a legend, why why would she need to dip in to the talents of someone who never had a number one hit? She wold have to do this because of one simple thing: she is not a "Canadian music legend". She is a Canadian music performer. She needs help writing music because, again, shes not a "Canadian music legend"
Don't talk about Chantal or any other legitimate song writer with such disrespect. There is not a song writing team for Chantal or Rain, their music comes from their creativity. They write songs that have meaning, not monetary value.

Seems stolen to me based on this video. But why? Her performance is very good. She has a very punchy cheerleader's style and now she's good looking too. So she doesn't have to swipe stuff to be popular.

The Rubinoos are hardly a no-name loser pop group. They were an important part of the San Francisco 70's scene, which was the direct foreunner of the new wave. An influential and important band.

this is the second time in two days that Yoni has got the facts wrong - the first was the reason for the Diana concert yesterday, the second is that Yoni believes Avril is a singer songwriter?
Yoni Golstein claims to be a journalist but lacks any sort of JOURALIST INTEGRITY by checking the facts - what Yoni will claim that it is just an editorial a matter of opinion. WRONG this is they type of Entertainment Tonight puff journalism that is pointless
Yoni HOW DO YOU KEEP YOUR JOB AS A COLUMNIST when you don't check your facts? I guess this is why the Toronto Sun has more readers than the National Post.

Two suggestions: First, according to Avril (and Wikipedia), she is in fact a songwriter. Take that for what you will (and, yes I know, I expect a lot of that songwriting means sucking back a brewsky while some hired gun writes in the chair next to her), but it's there.
Second — and here I would urge you to listen very closely — don't take everything so seriously.
My suggestion? Go grab a brewsky and try to relax. It's the summer, man.

Well, no real surprise here, so many times in the past we have seen how people will react when an artist/musician becomes very successful. It’s is an ugly part of our human nature and in the music world professional jealousy or envy goes way back, Salieri had it for Mozart, etc. Great success breeds jealousy, envy and contempt. It is sad to see jealousy rearing its ugly green head when a fellow artist in a weak moment of character lashes out against those who are more successful than they are. Acts of jealousy to discredit, slander or profit from discrediting their fellow artist, rarely benefits the accuser and often backfires making themselves looking pretty awful. Speaking of Avril Lavigne’s great successes,
Avril Lavigne Now has most No.1 Top 40 Hits this Decade, BILLBOARD.COM
Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" propelled the singer/songwriter to a lofty pedestal: The 22-year-old now has the most No. 1 top 40 hits this decade at five and is the No. 2 artist in the 14-year history of Nielsen BDS, behind Mariah Carey's six chart-toppers. "When You're Gone," the second single from No. 1 album "The Best Damn Thing," shifts the pacing from the frenetic head-banging of "Girlfriend" to a pensive, piano-driven power ballad. A poignant videoclip adds to universality, featuring a husband leaving his pregnant wife for war, a senior who has lost his wife and a teen couple forbidden to be together. Splendid melody, visible message and ace solemn production add up to likelihood of another No. 1 pop peak. —Chuck Taylor (Billboard.com)

I seriously can't believe that this article made it to any newspaper...especially not The National Post...are you seriouis??? I wouldn't even take a free newspaper to read garbage like this....if Avril states that she is a songwriter that doesn't mean that she really is...Do you just believe something and write about it in a major newspaper without doing your homework or research...?? This to me is just such a disgrace to this newspaper and it's readers...so happy I just happened to stumble accross it online for free and actually didn't pay to read such a not worthy piece of journalism....I strongly suggest that the person above the person that wrote this article check their work before allowing them to publish such nonsense in a paper....!!

Yonni - just one question - and I know you will never ever answer it - Do you have a degree in Journalism? If so what school did you graduate from?
To quote Wikipedia as a 'source' is not good journalism - took the time to get off your ass an looked at the liner notes of her CD's you will see that she has wrote or is credited with very few songs - she uses lyricists to help her. I am glad that she has made the big time, good for her . BUT she is not a SONGWRITER - I repeat songwriters do not use others to collaborate with them and give them song writing credits.
"infinitely talented, and very smart, and she is a legend" by superzentredi
a legend ? hardly - lets see where she is in 20 years - her career like the spice girls, new kids on the block and all the American idols will be over

To therover...thank goodness someone else has actually looked at the facts....she does co-write some of her songs but she is not a songwriter who sits down and writes her own material from within herself on her own....I can't even believe anyone thought she did....if anyone was a true fan of hers they would know this info right?? Or if the person who wrote this article had actually looked at the credits on her actual cd's they might find the info they should have posted here in the first place....!! and on the note of supersentredi.....just because someone has sold 30 million albums doesn't mean they are good at what they do....a lot of times it is good marketing by their record label ..She has a style that young people can relate with and that may very well be why she is popular? I am just curios though if she did write these lyrics to her Girlfriend song...Hell yeah I'm the Mother F*****G Princess....?? Maybe we can give her credit for that for her song writing abilities :-)
