I would like to say that Avril Lavigne made my daughter, Justice Burke's, night.
Justice has been a fan of Avril's since 2002, her favourite songs being Complicated and Sk8rboi. At age five, Justice could sing Avril's songs word for word.
I tried to get Justice tickets to see Avril in Kingston this week but was unable to do so. Then Justice became the Easter Seals ambassador for Kingston, and we were lucky enough to obtain tickets as a gift from Lloyd Flemming of BMO.
Justice was so excited. But then - an even bigger surprise - Megan Coughlin from Easter Seals was in contact with some people who were in contact with Avril's people, and they were able to pull off a meet-and-greet for Justice and her friend, Joceline, with Avril.
I didn't tell Justice or Joceline what was going to happen. We walked around the K-Rock Centre and entered through Gate 1. As the girls were waiting patiently to get to their seats, they were taken in to see Avril. There was no screaming or crying - just utter shock. Avril was very nice and down-to-earth with the girls.
Avril held my daughter's hand and signed autographs and gave her a VIP backstage pass. After they had a little chit-chat, Avril walked the girls around the backstage and put them on the side of her stage (upgrading their seats in the process). She rocked in one of the best concerts I have seen in years.
We are thankful to one hometown girl who remembered her roots and made a little girl's dreams possible.
