Get set to rock with Lavigne in August
PETALING JAYA: Canadian singer Avril Lavigne is all set to rock Malaysia this August, as part of her “The Best Damn Tour: world tour”.
According to organiser Galaxy Group managing director Alan Chan, this will be her only concert in South-East Asia.
“With that, I am sure we will be able to pull fans from neighbouring countries as well,” he told
The Star.
Lavigne is due to perform in Malaysia as part of her 'The Best Damn Tour: world tour' in August. The date and venue of her concert will be announced soon.
Chan said Lavigne was the “next biggest thing” after Celine Dion to perform here.
“They can both be considered the biggest showcases for this year, each from their respective generation,” he said.
“She has a huge fan base across Asia and I am confident fans will be more than happy to watch her live. We are very pleased to be able to host this highly-anticipated show,” he said.
The 23-year-old Grammy Award-nominated rock singer and actress released her debut album
Let Go in 2002. Over 16 million copies were sold worldwide.
Lavigne started out singing church songs along with her mother at two.
In 1998, the petite rocker won a competition to sing with fellow Canadian Shania Twain on her first major concert tour. She appeared alongside Twain at her concert in Ottawa, appearing on stage to sing
What Made You Say That.
Her second and third albums
Under My Skin (2004) and
The Best Damn Thing (2007) both received overwhelming response with millions of copies being sold.
Lavigne’s top hits include
Complicated,
Sk8er Boi,
I’m With You and
Girlfriend.
Her accolades include World Music Awards for World's Best Selling Pop/Rock Female Artist and MTV Video Music Awards (Japan) for Best Pop Video for
Girlfriend.
The date and venue of Lavigne’s concert here will be announced soon.
