Your opinion is one of many similar opinions, but not quite as many as needed for it to matter. Most people are quite aware that the accuracy of most counters is flawed in some way or another and we're not responsible for that. What we ARE responsible for is supporting the popularity of our favorite little lady and that's what we've been doing. Being at the top will cause many people who dislike the video to say anything they can for the reason behind it anyway. in fact...
They've said this crap all along, how 'Avril is fake, her 'style/image' was not real'. She didnt let that bother her. The fact is, the status remains, and when that video is #1, people can question how it got there... but its status remains. Besides, EOD is so lame, that it should be quite questionable how IT got to be #1. The fact of the matter is, I dont care how it got there, its too late for that. Its there and its status (at present) remains.
What is the significance of 199 extra views in comparison with 90 million? About 0.0002%.
Also, the point is not to give any more attention to GF but to give Avril the attention.
I don't really care what the significance of 199 is to 90 million. It didn't get 90 million in less than an hour like it is getting 199. However the significance of 199 to one is almost 200%. Both sides of the statistics can be argued, but either way it's cheating.
And the only attention I see it giving Avril, is that people are just becoming more annoyed with her.

I don't think it's valid for you to call the YouTube viewer a "hoax". Either way, it would still record a maximum of 200 views per IP address per day, which is significantly higher than 1 view per IP address. You take what would be 100 views by 100 computers and multiply it by 200: that's 20,000 right there. 20,000, most of which aren't genuine views of people expressing interest in Avril's video for it's artistic merits. It's technically still cheating...
I feel that 'Girlfriend' would have been the most viewed video without any of this plotting, but just because it's a good video and a lot of people naturally want to watch it. It's disappointing to see Avril fans want to intentionally boost views for her video, instead of believing that it could generate views on it's own because it deserves it. Indeed, this whole fandango, will bring more views to the video, but not for the right reasons. You're absolutely right, people have said crap about her all along, and she never let it bother her. But this is a silly gimmick created by the fans, which is quite frankly, embarrassing. It seems like an inappropriate scheme that will taint her reputation, and there's nothing she would be able to say to defend herself.
By doing this, it makes it okay for other fansites/groups to start doing this, and I can bet that 'Girlfriend' won't be #1 for long once it gets there.
I actually found the EOD quite entertaining, but to each his own...
