do not underrate the force of a music publisher... but yeah, probably you're right, if she'd totally dislike them, there would be no dancers...

Avril's case is a different, though. You listed bands, not solo artists, so that alone is a diversity, not to mention the fact that none of those bands do pop music (they have some pop tunes, but their genre is not pop). And if those bands danced, they'd be considered as boybands or something - Avril is a solo artist and can (theoretically) do whatever she wants (i.e. dancing) as long as she's also singing - but as far as I know, boyband members sing and dance, and not play instruments all at the same time. Not to mention that it would be the weirdest (and/or most ridiculous) thing to see - Liam Gallagher playing guitar, singing "...Heeeeey, Lyla!..." and doing whatever seriously unimaginable dance moves contemporarily. Lastly, those bands don't even have songs that could need dancing, while Av has quite a few danceable tracks. I myself don't like this whole dancing thing, but whatever.
Gwen Stefani is older than Avril and is a mother, yet she dances. The problem here is the fact that Avril doesn't know how to dance (or even move her way around the stage, pseudo-dancing, as to not look ridiculous), yet she still insists on doing it.
About Jim, I think he should just learn to either sing as a background vocalist (meaning his voice is to be heard in the background) or step a little away from the mic - his voice can be overwhelming at times.
This was considerably long, and I didn't mean it to .

Do you think she's such a bad dancer?

She... doesn't dance. Like I said, Avril kicks and punches, does some very basic movements with her body - nothing unusual, nothing new, nothing you and I can't do - and yet she's not that good at it.

@rockpit you're right. but to me she has always been more a rock singer than a pop singer and more a band lead singer than a solo artist... guess this is an emotional thing, though...
i have no clue about dancing, but what i saw looked comparatively professional to me...
probably this is only, because i am not interested in that kind of dancing @all and although i feel it doesn't fit to that kind of image that avril had through her first two albums... but it's avrils decision. no one should tell her, how she has to behave. and if she wants to change her way of being, thats okay - as long as she's still herself... and that's what i have doubts about... but maybe this is only my way to not face that she's no longer as sympathetic to me as she was in the past... which does not mean that i dislike her the way she is now.

Is that not the whole point though? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Avril is really serious or going for a dancing carreer here. I think the whole thing is supposed to be more of a fun vibe, out of the ordinary type of thing. I actually think it's pretty cute how she can't really dance but tries to haha.
And I agree with you completelly about the backup singer. And I would even go as far as saying he's not even doing it right. He's singing with a lead voice, he'll go and do little adlifts that Avril is not even doing and it sounds ridicolous. This is what made Evan sound good, the fact that he would just be really simple about it, would just hold notes and let Avril shine, making himself sound very good aswell.
