I think she should push herself on her next album.
1.) Improve on her piano/guitar skills and play them on the album just a little
2.) Write more thoughtful/mature/clever lyrics
3.) Write a song on her own - even just the lyrics - even if its just a simple acoustic thing so she can actually call herself a writer
4.) No more of this bratty thing - one or two faster songs sure. But fast doesn't mean bratty

I don't know... I'm just really feeling that she could sing let go songs even better now but not let go songs but songs like it and also some UMS songs like how does it feel, and together. They don't have to be sad or extremely deep, they could be happy, but I still feel that let go, or maby even softer, or a few UMS type things on her next record.

I definitely want an album that avril can share more of her experiences from. Like this album, is nothing about her, everytime she explains how When You're Gone is so personal, its not as dear to her as it should be to Butch. Innocence is a great song though, Runaway is like nothing shes written before, fantastic.
The Best Damn Thing, ICDB, Girlfriend, IDHTT, EBBU are just upbeat pop rock songs that have little meaning to them. Its not bad, its just like she said, she was in a happy place when she started writing again. Its definitely time to go back to a few mediocre songs like Dont Tell Me and Happy Ending.

Getting away from the usual commercial Top 40 pop-rock fodder and finally venturing into the world of singer-songwriters, as well as starting to experiment with sounds.
I mean.... don't need to stick with that old formula (guitar, bass, and drum). So far.... Avril has always done the "full band" formula for all of her songs.
But if songs like Tomorrow and Nobody's Home can be better being "pure acoustic", then why not make it like that? If songs like Slipped Away is better when stripped to raw minimalism (pure piano, like when she does it live), then why does she have to sell the song for commercialism (just like Evanescence's My Immortal, which radio version is a definite inferior to the album version)?
Not only that.. a little influence from other musical genres can help. If she wants to hire an entire brass section... or to try putting her hands on a harpsichord... or to explore the notes of a harmonica... then why not?

I really like your thinking.... BUT is Avril capable, i hope she is. There something there that makes me believe she has the capabilities to become a good song-writer...i just get the feeling she doesn't care enough to do that, and that she focuses on making songs that will be huge on the charts. UMS had its big singles but kept some interesting songs on the album.
I'd love to see her really experiment on the 4th album, keeping it slightly rocky
Its going to be very intersting though, she will be 24/25, she CANNOT do the bratty immature anymore....so what is she going to do? Im already looking forward to it and curious too.

I love all Avril's current albums...There all my faves I think Avril's next album will be really deep...really really deep She will be a lot more grown up than she is now...even though she is grown up right now lol TBDT is fantastic. proboly my fave record beacause it puts you in such a good mood, but then and again LG/UMS are great to help get you through hard times. Maybe her 4th will be like nothing shes ever done before...
