Help Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" Break a YouTube Record!!

OK... I've officially had it with all this "Avril would be ashamed" bullshit. If you don't want to participate, then don't participate, but as for passing moral judgements, I suggest you leave this thread and never return. Bandaids' has never accepted being judgemental of people on our forums, and we're certainly not going to accept it now. Not when you're telling out members they should be ashamed of themselves for helping Avril gain more visibility.

HERE IS WHY THIS IS NOT WRONG:

YouTube views don't count for shit. Every single video on YouTube with a decent number of views has more views than the number of times people have legitimately watched the video all the way through. Whether it's auto-refreshers, whether it's youtube traffic exchanges, whether it's embedding the code to autoplay on a page, or whether it's the spam bots that visit videos randomly to post comments and end up adding to a views view count.

The view count of a video is not an accurate representation. It's not accurante representations of how many times people have viewed a video. It's not accurate representations of the quality of a video. It's not accurate representations of how popular a video is in the grand scheme of things.

Why? Because of how YouTube counts views. Every single video out there has an inflated view count because of the way YouTube counts views. If you have an issue with that, tell YouTube to change.

But in the mean time, we're going to take advantage of how YouTube counts views to help Avril. Why? Because for as little as YouTube views actually count, they do get you one thing: VISIBILITY. That means publicity, that means brand reinforcement, that means getting Avril's name out there even more than it already is. And that's a good thing.

The way YouTube counts their views right now, their system is meant to count more views than a video legitimately gets. YouTube used to have a much stricter system that would only count one view per IP address per day. Do you really think they changed it so that people wouldn't try to get their view counts higher? That's beyond naive. YouTube benefits when they're videos viewed stats increase. So if your argument is rooted in the fact that Girlfriend isn't being watched the same number of times that its view count represents, then your argument fails.

Hell, if that's the case, any time you start watching a YouTube video and get bored and stop halfway through, any time you watch a video twice just to catch a part of it you missed the first time round, any time you revisit a video page just to use the comment feature without actually watching the vid, you're committing view fraud. So if you continue to argue that what we're doing is wrong, I suggest that the next time you do any of these three things, you send YouTube an e-mail and ask them to deduct "one" from the view count, otherwise you're guilty of committing the same "ashamed" acts that you accuse us of.

Once again, you can choose to not help but any attempt to accuse us of doing something that is morally wrong will have you quickly defeated. Why? Because what we're doing is not wrong and YouTube's own method of counting views defends that.

If you were Avril, would you feel better if your fans viewed your videos just for the sake of viewing them or if they viewed videos because they liked them?
If someone is indeed 'cheating', does it mean that we should stoop down to their level and do it too?

This isn't about feeling good. It's about getting Avril more visibility.

And from my many discussions with Avril over the years, I know she feels the same way.

I was just stating my opinion, like people have stated theirs.
My main concern is what I had said some time ago when this was first introduced, which is that since we're doing this out in the open, anyone can exploit this and use it against us.

btw yesterday and today when i went on youtube most viewed for all time it comes up with "charlie bit my finger" as most viewed- is anyone else getting this?

we have a very long way to go because as Avril's count increases, the EOD count is also increasing. If we dont HURRY to get it done, we'll have a lot more to do. Just like if someone is walking ahead of you, you can run to catch them and walk with them or you can walk slightly faster and it'll take you forever to catch them so you can slow down to their pace.
