My friend and I saw Av last night at Nassau Coliseum - our first Avril show since 2005 (when we did 3 concerts in 4 days). We had to drive about an hour and a half to get there but it was definitely worth it.
Since we weren't interested at all in the opening band, we left so that we would get there not too long before the show started. We ended up getting there at 6:45 (for the show at 7) and then after parking made our way around and found the tourbus so we could scope that out for post-show. We took a few pics of the bus -- and since my camera died I had to use my phone:
This woman came over to us and was like, "Are you guys with the show?" I probably could have just said Yes and she'd be like "Oh, ok" and left - but I said no, we are just hanging out. So then she basically told us to get lost.
We made our way inside and I waited on the line to buy merch and got the black and white tee that has her lying down on the front/tour dates in the back. I didn't get any posters because I figured I would buy them tonight when I go to the Mohegan Sun concert. Then I got food and whatnot and we headed to our seats. We sat down and then realized we might be in the wrong ones - which we were, so we moved down even further and had incredibly great seats. We were on the left, looking at the stage, but at the perfect angle. AKA if we'd gone over any further we'd be looking at her from the side.
Avril came on at around 8. The show itself was awesome. I still think the Bonez Tour was the best tour because I personally like UMS the best, but she wanted this one to be upbeat and it definitely was- especially with
Girlfriend and
I Can Do Better. Both are great live songs. She dedicated
I'm With You to her fans - and let us sing as always! I happen to love
I Always Get What I Want live - although my friend does not like that song! When they brought out the piano, I knew
When You're Gone was coming. The song is great, but the video isn't the best. (When they showed the edited video up on the screen, my friend and I were hoping we'd see the Old Man!)
Innocence - amazing song, even better live. And acoustic. I would happily go to (and love) an all-acoustic concert of hers.
Losing Grip is an old favorite - the CD version doesn't quite capture it I think.
I loved that she did
Runaway - it's a really short song, but one of my favorites on the album. With
I Don't Have To Try, she said "motherfucker" the first time, then didn't the rest of the song. Same goes for the other songs with words like that, sometimes she censored herself, sometimes not. She said "shit" in
My Happy Ending but not "slut" or "bitch" in
Everything Back But You.
She ended on
Sk8er Boi - an old classic which, again, is always better live.
MEETING AV
So after the show we headed back to where the tourbus was and found a few other people waiting. They setup barricades alongside the ramp that led down into the underground entrance. A few of the guys from Boys Like Girls came out and a lot of the girls waiting with us were waiting for them. We spotted Avril's bodyguard and talked to him. Then the tourbus came out and pulled up right alongside the barricades and Av got out. There were too many people for her to stop for pictures but she signed my phone which was awesome because it didn't rub right off! My friend told her we were seeing her tomorrow and she was like "Aw thanks!"
