“Here’s To Never Growing Up” might be Avril Lavigne’s latest hit, but with a upcoming trip down the aisle and her most complicated album set to hit shelves, Nylon‘s latest cover girl is definitely making some mature moves. “Lyrically, I pushed myself to talk about different subjects I haven’t talked about before. I didn’t want to be so simple. I tried to really express myself and go deeper,” she says of her work in her interview with the magazine, “I’m so transparent. If I’m not being myself, I won’t do well, and that goes for writing songs, work, relationships, everything.”

Avril’s no-nonsense style can be seen in her writing and in her style, and for mag’s music issue, the singer shows off that tough-girl look she’s famous for. In the shots taken by photographer Brooke Nipar, Miss Punk Princess sports thick eyeliner, dark leather, and plenty of black in the pages and on the cover.

Something else the future Mrs.Chad Kroeger is open about is her connection with the Nickelback frontman: “He’s nice, and real, and kind. For me, it’s about having a connection on a deeper level. Be romantic!”

Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger rock up in leather to the 2013 Billboard Awards – inspired by David and Victoria Beckham?

Perhaps Avril and Chad wanted to pay tribute to David after he announced his retirement from professional football. That’s the only logical explanation for their matchy matchy leather outfits at the 2013 Billboard Awards yesterday.

David and Victoria went one step further by both wearing full on leather and looking like they’d both just jumped off an actual motorbike when attending a Versace Jeans party back in 1999.

Avril embraced the leather look a little more fully than Chad did, rocking on the blue carpet in a strapless leather mini dress and cut-out knee-high leather boots. Chad just threw a leather jacket on this his all black outfit.

We miss the days when Avril rocked those perfectly shaded smoky eyes that always looked edgy and sultry and made her blue eyes pop.
And what's up with the scraggly, too-long hair extensions? Is Amanda Bynes giving out her extensions stylist's number again?
We will give Avril props for her flawless skin though. Thankfully, she's not so rock ‘n' roll that she sleeps in her makeup. Plus, she appears to stay out of the sun (perhaps she's keeping vampire hours?). But we would have loved to see a bit more of a flush to her cheeks. The harsh eye makeup and pale skin totally washes her out.

Beauty Bailout: First of all: Get rid of those extensions, girl! They look like they're literally weighing you down. And if you whip your head around on stage, you might take out your guitar player's eye! Now, if you are married to the idea of extensions, go for higher quality pieces that are the same texture as your natural hair.
Speaking of natural: We're not expecting Avril to abandon her kohl eye makeup for the fresh-faced look (though we would love to see it!), but she needs to take it down a notch. It's easy to create a more flattering shaded smokey eye:
Trace a line along your upper lash line (getting thicker as you get closer to the outer eye) with a black gel liner like MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack. Then, take a dark brown or plum eye shadow and apply it directly to your crease in a back and forth motion, taking the eye shadow brush out past your crease and down into the outer corner of your eye in a V-shape.

Shade the shadow by making your V-shape larger from the outer half of your crease to the outer half of your eyelid. To give this look more depth, take a smaller shadow brush and use a shadow that is a few shades darker and make a small "V" from your outer crease to the outer corner of your eye. Then blend like crazy!
Next, take that smaller shadow brush and dip it into the original shadow and apply along your lower lash line and then blend and diffuse the line. Hint: If you don't have a blending brush, use a Q-tip.
Now, take a black kohl pencil like Avon Kohl Liner and line your water line. And to finish the look, apply 2-3 coats of volume-building mascara like Covergirl Lash Blast Volume Mascara. Voilà!

Now, if Avril is actually trying to land a part in Tim Burton's next movie, then this look is perfect! If not, it's time to tone down the fright factor on that eye makeup. It's scaring the kids!
