She sat up beside her sleeping boyfriend in bed, sipping her hot chocolate. Her phone, in her PJ pant pocket, started vibrating. She opened it and read the text message.
"D’s doing promo stuff all day 2moro. Meet me @ the Jaycrib @ 5."
She looked at it for a few seconds then quickly typed back, "k, cool. cya then. d gets back @ 5:30, tho. i’ll tell him i’m doing laundry at m’s or something."
She put the phone back into her pocket, but within seconds it was vibrating again.
"Laundry, ha, is that my new nick? Lol. See u then."
"ugh, u r so sick, c. u know what ur nick is... haha... kk gotta sleep."
She woke up the next morning. Her boyfriend was gone but had left a note.
"Baby, I’m doing promo stuff ‘til like 6, like I told you, but call me at 5 or something, OK? I want to hear from you, babes."
Five was going to be a busy time slot. The home phone rang and she ran to get it.
"Hello?"
"Hey. He’s supposed to meet me at the radio station, like, now. Where is he?"
"Um, I think he said something yesterday about stopping to get dry cleaning or something."
"Oh man... he always takes forever at the dry cleaner’s."
"Ew, gross. I gotta go take a shower so I’ll talk to you later, OK?"
"You didn’t wear him out, right?"
"God!"
"Fine. K bye."
She hung up the phone and shuffled to the kitchen to have some breakfast and picked up another land line phone. She dialled the other man’s number and it began to ring.
Finally after 5 rings, he picked up.
"Hey sex muffin."
"Right. Um, yeah, dude, I can’t talk right now."
The line went dead.
"What the hell?" she muttered. She slammed the phone down and ripped a hunk of bread off the loaf.
"I hate men." she grumbled as she stuck her head into the fridge and finally found the milk that her boyfriend had stuffed at the back, "Especially the sexual ones."
She washed down the bread then stood and went into the bathroom with her towel. She stripped and was about to step into the shower when the phone started ringing.
"Crap!" she needlessly wrapped herself in the towel and ran to the phone, "What?!" she shouted into it.
"I’m really sorry about before."
"We’ll talk tonight, OK? But don’t expect me to be feeling like ‘doing laundry’. We’ll talk. That’s it."
"But..."
"Bye."
She hung up and waddled back to the bathroom and turned the tap and sighed as the hot water fell onto her head.
