So Suddenly (Can a franchise last four stories?)
So I've been working on this for months now, it's another Evan/Riley story. If it sucks, you guys just let me know.

So Suddenly

Prologue

“I’ll get him inside. Go park the car,” Evan Taubenfeld snaps. He slams the brakes on his Ford Explorer, grabs a prostrate body from the passenger seat, jerks open the driver’s side open, and steps out.

“No, you park the car! I’ll get him inside!” Riley opens another car door and stretches her arms toward Evan.

“Why the fuck don’t you ever listen?!” Evan shouts. “Go park the fucking car!”

“Mommy!” a high-pitched voice wails from the backseat.

“He’s my son too! And I’m his mother, I should take him inside! You’re not much of a father to him anyway!” Riley shouts back.

Evan advances toward her, his green eyes burning with anger and something else—but then he glances into the backseat, then at the body cradled in his arms. “Now is not the time, Riley Taubenfeld. You go park the car. I will take our son inside. And you calm down our daughter.”

Knowing that pursuing the issue any farther at this moment would be the most ridiculous thing in the world, Riley nods and climbs into the driver’s seat. She watches Evan run in front of the car toward the double doors with a shining red ‘Emergency Room’ sign above them. Then she obediently finds a parking space for the car.

After she cuts the car engine, she stares at her hands. She’s gripping the steering wheel so tight her fingers are white. Her heart is racing so fast she can hear the blood pounding in her ears; it’s the only sound she can hear, a strange roaring noise that blocks out everything.

“Mommy? Mommy! Mommy!” a voice wails.

Who is calling me like that, she wonders. Instantly the white noise is gone and everything is clear again. The voice is her daughter, crying hysterically in the backseat.

Poor thing. Evan and I have just been ignoring her the whole time!

“Come here, Lilly,” she says in a surprisingly calm voice. “Come to Mommy.”

As she rocks the little girl in her arms, all she can think about is how things can change, so suddenly…
