I took a stab at it - its called - Give And Take

okay, so this sis my first stab at actually trying to write. So, it might suck, but feel free to read it and comment on it. I'll have more chapters up soon...Love y'all, and just so you know, If I do something in different PoV's (points of view) I'll use different colours.
pink - Marissa
green - Matt
purple - Kyle



Chapter 1 - Give and Take
When I woke up, there was a note covered in neat handwriting on the bedside table. Obviously Matt had left it. “Love you. And don’t forget to sing your heart out for them. Love, Matt.”
That made me remember the day we met each other at the ticket booth at a Family Values Tour show in LA. I remembered the first thing he said to me. “Hello. I love your hat . Where’d you get it?” And that seemed to be the beginning of my recent streak of good luck - if you could call a year ago recent.
About a year ago, my gay friend, Kyle, and I moved out here to LA to start our careers, seeing as LA has so many job opportunities. I was in it for music, and he wanted to write for a big anime corporation, but he settled for a bartending job in Hollywood.
“So, Mar, where are we checking today?”
“Kyle!” I sighed, “You’ve been looking for a new job the entire week we’ve been her. Have some fun. You’re coming to a concert with me today. We‘ll go guy shopping.”
He laughed and slowly pulled into the driveway under our crappy little apartment. Home.
“I just have to get some money and put on the new outfit I bought yesterday.”
“Wow Kyle ‘McStyle’ has to change… Again…That’s only the third time today right? I swear Kyle, if you were any more of a girl you’d have a purse!”
“Ha. Ha. Very funny. Very funny,” he said glaring. “Now if you don’t mind, I am going to change and I’ll be out in a sec.”
“Okay ‘rainbow boy’, have fun getting fabulous.”
“Shut up!” he laughed. “I’ll be right back.”
“Ok.”
As soon as he got back to the living room, we locked up, ran down the stairs, and through the lobby doors to the car.
“ I can’t wait!”
“I know!”
After passing many weird buildings, not to mention, weird people, we finally pulled onto a street full of people, and there was the sign saying, “Family Values Tour: featuring, Flyleaf, 3 Days Grace, and many more!”
“Dang, look at all the hotties with their shirts off!”
“Now Kyle, don’t get to excited, you might fall in love.”
“Right back at ya, Mar.”
While waiting for the ticket person to check our tickets, Kyle’s face turned white. Like stone.
“Urm, Mariah? I can’t find them.”
“What? Wait, you can’t find the tickets?”
“They were right here in my pocket a second ago.”
“Are you serious?!”
“Sadly, yes.”
As I turned around to contemplate how mad I was, I was caught by the most beautiful face I’d ever seen, gliding toward me.
“Hello. I love your hat. Where’d you get it?” He was too beautiful.
“Huh?” I was beside myself. “What do you want?” I asked.
“I just over heard you and your boyfrie-”
“One, he isn’t my boyfriend. And tow, who are you and why are you talking to me?”
I felt mean, but victorious when I saw him turn around. I won. Or at least, I thought I had - Until he turned back around to face me.
“Look lady, I was trying to be nice. I was going to offer to pay your way in because I overheard you saying your tickets were missing.”
“Oh.” It was a squeak. It seemed like he was hypnotizing me. I couldn’t breathe. I blacked out.
Standing back up a moment later, I over heard Kyle saying, “Sorry about that, she gets moody. Especially this time a month.”
“Forget you Kyle. I’m getting a new best friend!”
We laughed at it like I hadn’t snapped at the stranger. I felt compelled to meet his gaze and stare at him with wonder.
“Well, since you don’t want me to buy you a ticket I guess I’ll just go now.”
“Wait!” I said after him. “I at least like to know the name of the person I’m yelling at.”
“Matt.”
For some reason, I was all tingly inside. It didn’t surprise me either. I still was having trouble breathing, like I was on a roller coaster.
“ Hey Matt. I have a job to go look for, will you keep her in line for me? Go out with her or something. She needs it.”
“No, Kyle,” I muttered.
He hissed back, “Just do it! Just because he isn’t her anymore doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take a chance at finding someone.”
“Fine,” I whispered back.
Matt was standing there, waiting for my reply.
“So do we have a date?” he asked.
“I guess I could go out for a while. I’m Marissa, but you can call me Mar if you want.”
“Okay,” he said.
Jokingly but truthfully Kyle said, “Just have her home by ten. She’s going job searching with me in the morning. And just so you know, I’m gay, so you don’t have to worry about her cheating on you with her roommate if you guys do hit it off.”
“Thanks for the warning,” Matt said laughing.
“So, Matt, where do you want to go?”
“Anywhere’s good for me. I’ve seen just about everything there Is to see in LA, so anything is good for me.”
“Oh really? Well then, what about a movie and dinner, since I haven’t even been in LA for more than a week.”
“Okay, fine with me. What do you want to see?”
“Wow, a guy who asks the girl what they want to see. Nice move. Want to go see that new vampire movie? You know, the one they based on that Stephanie Meyers book, ‘Twilight’.”
“Sure. I don’t know about you, but I love that book.”
“Oh my god. Me too. Now I know you aren’t a vampire like Edward was because you’re blushing.”
“Well, so are you.”
“Oh!” I giggled. “Well then.”
“So before the movie starts, I believe some Q-&-A is in order. So what’s your favourite colour?”
“Green. What about you?”
“Green also. How funny. Well how old are you sir?”
“Eighteen last week, and you?”
“Seventeen.”
“Well, you do know you’re very mature for a seventeen-year-old right?”
“I’m only a year younger than you! And anyways, you’re not so old yourself mister Eighteen last week!”
He put his hands up jokingly saying, “Don’t shoot! Ahhhh! You know what?”
“What?”
“You’re very beautiful. Do you know that?”
I blushed and turned away. He laughed. Blushed. Turned away.
“Well, that line isn’t going to get you in my pants. I hope you know that.”
“That’s not why I said it.”
Ring. Ring. Ring. My cell phone.
I turned around, answering my phone with a finger up, to show Matt that I was about to answer it.
“Hey Steven! How are you?”
“Good, and you?”
“Well, I am on a date. What about you?”
“Well, I am too fabulous for dating. I’m rolling solo for a while.”
“Since when is the one and only Steven Aarcht too fabulous to date?”
Matt’s face went very sincere at hearing the name, so I told Steven to hold on and said to Matt, “What’s up with your face?”
“I know him. I used to work with him at our high school job.”
“Oh cool.” I put up my finger again, holding the phone up to my ear. “So, do you know a dude named Matt who lives down here?”
“Matt Locket?”
I held the phone away, “Is your last name Locket?”
“Yeah. Hey tell him I said hello, ok?”
“Ok.” I held the phone back up. “Hey Steven, Matt says hello. Now I’m going to get off of the phone now, and get back to my date.”
“Ok, bye.”
“Bye.”
Matt and I both blushed at the fact that we both knew Steven, and then we laughed at each other for a short second.
“Well, I think the movie starts in five minutes, so we should get our popcorn and tickets now.”
“I have a dare for you Marissa.”
“And what might that be?”
“I dare you to hang out with me every day for a week and see if you don’t fall in love with me.”
“You’re on.”
