Avril's POV

"Guess what?" I asked as soon as Deryck opened the door to his hotel room. He quirked an eyebrow at me. "My manager gave me the week off! So I can stay here in New York for a couple more days," I announced, grinning broadly.

"Oh, awesome." Deryck smiled too. Ohmigosh, he's so cute when he smiles! I think I'm going to die.... I took in a sharp breath, then let myself relax and put my head on Deryck's shoulder.

"Want to go out for dinner tonight?" suggested Deryck.

"Mmkay," I replied absentmindedly. So many thoughts were running through my head. Most of them along the lines of, he likes me, he likes me, he likes me. He's holding me! I got control of my thoughts and focused back on Deryck.

"We could eat and then go party," he was saying. I pulled myself off him. My mind was blurry, I was still thinking clearly enough to know I shouldn't let myself fall head over heels before the first real date. Also, I didn't want to smother the poor guy.

"Sounds like fun," I agreed. "I'm still not old enough to drink the States, but what the hell."

"How old are you? I'm 22, by the way...." Obviously Deryck was nervous about the age difference between us, and so was I, but I had always had a thing for older guys anyway.

"I just turned 18 last week," I admitted. Before Deryck could back out, I hurriedly asked Deryck to come get me from my room in an hour, then left the room before he could see me blushing.

As soon as I had returned to the safety of my own room, I collapsed on my bed like a pathetic pile of jelly. Pathetic but happy jelly. I had never experienced this feeling before.

"Hey, Evan." I turned to where Evan was, sitting in a chair on the other side of the room. "I have a date tonight."

Evan looked up from his song writing with a big grin on his face. "You asked Deryck out?!" he asked excitedly. I giggled. Evan can be a real a gossip queen sometimes.

"He asked me out," I corrected him. "And I'm so nervous!"

"You shouldn't be. The guy is already infatuated with you." I could feel my whole face growing warm.

"Aww...Av's going red," teased Evan. Then, taking on a more serious tone, he advised me, "Don't sweat it. Girls think about dates too much." I opened my mouth to say something, but Evan interrupted, "And I am not going to help you pick out a dress, so don't even ask."

I puffed out my lower lip at Evan and pouted like a puppy dog. "Pweeeease?" I begged in the cutest voice I could. "I only have an hour to get ready."

I knew I had won when Evan rolled his eyes and threw his notebook on the ground. He was mumbling, "Only an hour? Tragic." I smiled to myself.

Evan was standing over my huge suitcase, staring into the piles of crap (mostly clothing) I had stuffed in there. "Uhh...Av?" he asked. "Do you even own a dress?"

"I think so. Somewhere at home. Probably a really frilly thing my mom shoved me in." I joined Evan, standing on tiptoe and peering over his shoulder into the suitcase. "I don't actually want to wear a dress. I'm not gonna pretend to be some glamour girl. I just want to look...nice."

I realized while sifting through my clothes that I really didn't have much except tank tops, ties, and cargos with me.

Evan was going through my clothes in a very male fashion, throwing them all over the room. Damn...I'll have to clean those up later. I absolutely despised having to fold up several months worth of clothes and stacking them in my suitcase.

"How do you rope me into these things?" moaned Evan. "I'm going through a girl's clothing. I could be touching your bra or something!" Evan yanked his hand out of my suitcase with disgust on his face, looking at my clothes as if they were snapping turtles.

I rolled my eyes. "Don't act like a ten-year-old," I scolded him. I pulled out a black, long-sleeved v-neck sweater and a pair of dark, tight fitting jeans. I held them in front of my body for Evan. "How do I look like this?"

Evan stared at me blankly for several seconds before saying, "Avril...I'm a guy. I don't do this stuff."

"Right, you're a guy...so if I wore this on a date with you, would you like it?"

Evan shuddered. "A date with you? Don't speak of such horrors." I shot him a look. "I'm sure you're lovely and all, but you're like my little sister...that's just gross."

"Come on," I pleaded. "I don't have anyone else to ask." Matt, Charlie, and Jesse were all making good use of our week off - they were out partying for the evening, then they were going to all fly back home to relax for a few days. Relaxation was somewhat of a luxury for all five of us.

"You look fine, Av," he reassured me. "Don't freak out, okay?"

I nodded and headed into the bathroom to change. Right before I walked in, with my hand still on the doorknob, I turned to Evan and said, "Don't go anywhere. I still need you to help me with my hair."

My best friend let out a loud groan. "How did I get stuck with you?"

"You know you love me," I said with a coy smile, walking into the bathroom and closing the door.

Deryck's POV

"You didn't."

"I did."

"No. No freaking way." Cone shook his head in disbelief.

"There is no way you asked her out!" exclaimed Steve. "She's seventeen!"

"Eighteen." I leaned back in my chair. Part of me agreed with everything my bandmates were saying, but a bigger part of me was proud of myself. I'm normally too shy to do things like chase a girl down a hallway and make out with her (which I hadn't told anybody else about yet) or ask her out to dinner. Steve rolled his eyes.

"Well, at least it's legal...," he murmured. Cone interjected.

"I still don't believe you," he declared. "I want proof."

"What, you want him to bring back Avril's panties?" asked Dave.

"Yeah...that'd be good." All three of my friends looked at me. I could feel my eyes going wide with surprise.

"Are you serious?!" They continued to stare at me. I gulped. I was not planning on doing anything with Avril tonight except maybe some hand-holding, or another kiss.

Dave sensed my discomfort and broke into a grin. "We're just messing with you, D. Have fun on your date." I let out the breath I had been holding. Thank God.

"Where are you taking her?" asked Cone.

"I dunno. Somewhere nice for dinner, then a bar." I looked at myself. I was wearing baggy black pants and my "Beano Club" t-shirt. It had also been three days since I had showered. "You think I should change?"

"Nah. Just be yourself," advised Steve.

"But I stink." Steve laughed and went looking through his suitcase for something. He handed me a small bottle. I read the label. "'Very Sexy Men's Cologne'?"

"Yup. The ladies love it."

I rolled my eyes. "Thanks. I guess." I went looking for my shoes. I had just ten minutes before Avril was expecting me to come for her, and I didn't want to be late.
