I also don't know when Avril and Jesse got together, but bear with me, ok?
______________
My band and I were sitting on our jet. Everyone else was eating, but I wasn't hungry. I was thinking about that guy that had approached me backstage at my last show.
"Hey!" called Evan. "Earth to Avril!" I snapped out of my reverie and looked at Evan.
"Yeah?"
"What're you thinking about?"
I bit my lip. I wasn't sure what to say. If I was alone with Evan, sure, I'd tell him I thought I had a crush on a guy whose name I didn't know. But I knew Jesse liked me, and I didn't want to hurt his feelings; he was my friend.
"Who was that band who headlined tonight?" I asked Evan, figuring that was as inconspicuous as I could get.
"Sum 41. Why?" Matt raised an eyebrow at me.
"Nothing...it's just..." I tried to think of a good excuse. "I think I've seen the frontman somewhere before."
"Who, Deryck Whibley?" Charlie grinned. "The guy's totally in love with you, you know."
I felt myself blush a deep red. That wasn't what I had wanted to hear. I saw an all-knowing grin on Evan's face.
"You like him, too, don't you?" he said smugly.
"Wha-? No!" I stuttered, feeling my cheeks growing hot. I saw Matt grin too.
"Just drop it," I muttered.
_______________
I could barely sleep that night. I kept thinking about Deryck Whibley. I knew Charlie and Evan were both right. Deryck probably liked me. And I liked him. But could I have him? He was obviously older than me. After all, my eighteenth birthday was still a few weeks off. I was barely legal. And I was pretty sure that Deryck was 22.
I turned over in my bed. I saw in the bed next to mine, Evan was sleeping. I knew I needed to talk to him. Evan was always the person I talked to when I was having problems. But since it was nearly four in the morning, I turned back over and tried to fall asleep.
Heh, Av was pretty close with her guess for his age.
Very very good.

Avril's POV
Should I make a move on him? Hell, I don't even know where to find him...why diidn't I get his phone number?! I internally slapped myself and groaned. My head was hurting. I was confused. I desperately needed someone to talk to.
I leaned back into the pillows of my hotel room bed, silently wishing I was back home. My mom would tell me what to do. Pulling out my cellphone, I decided to call her. I knew no one else would hear me since the rest of my band was locked out and staying in the adjoined room, and Evan was in the shower.
The phone only rang twice before my mother picked it up. "Hey, Mom," I said softly.
"Avril! You haven't called me in ages. Is everything alright?" My mother was always overly concerned about me. I smiled a little bit.
"Yeah, everything's good...." I relaxed a bit. "I need your help, though. I met this guy at a show a few nights ago...and I can't stop thinking about him."
"You like him," my mom stated simply and smugly. Once again, I blushed. I could practically see my mom's smile.
"Y-yeah...but I don't know what to do about it! It's just, he's older than me and I made a complete idiot of myself that night...I just don't think I have a chance with him!" I bit my lip and felt a few tears gather in my eyes. I was so overwhelmed.
"Avril! Calm down!" exclaimed my mom. I let out a long breath and felt better. "Sit tight. Wait for him. If he likes you, he'll come for you."
There were still a million what if's running through my head. But my mom probably couldn't help me with any of them. "I love you, Mom," I said softly. "I have to go now."
"Alright. I'll see you when you're in Toronto for your birthday."
"Yeah. Bye." I hung up my cell phone and noticed Evan standing in the doorway, looking rather pleased with himself.
"I knew it! You do like Deryck, don't you?" I groaned and buried my head in my pillow.
______________
Deryck's POV
I was caught in a stare. My eyes were unfocused and I was just...thinking. All I could think about was that beautiful girl I had made a drunken idiot out of myself in front of. She probably didn't want me anyway. She certainly hadn't seemed interested. I sighed and closed my eyes for a minute.
"Hey!" called Dave. I blinked, trying to clear my fuzzy mind.
"Wha?" I sat up, realizing I had dozed off sitting on a chair in the tour bus.
"Where the hell have you been?" Dave asked. "You've been in a zone for twenty minutes."
"Sorry," I mumbled, rubbing my still sleepy eyes. "I guess I thought too hard." Steve, who had been listening in, smirked.
"Yeah, you probably shouldn't think too much, D. We don't want you to hurt yourself." I rolled my eyes.
"I'd swat you but I don't want to go over there," I yawned.
"You two are so immature." Dave left.
"Yeah, and he isn't," I mumbled. Steve leaned against the couch cushions. and stared at me intently.
"All this thinking you've been doing lately...it wouldn't happen to be about a certain little punk, would it?" I didn't say anything. That was an answer enough for Steve. "Trying to figure out the best method to snag her?"
I sighed. "I don't think I can anymore," I admitted to my best friend. "I was drunk when we talked and I acted like...well, like a drunk guy looking at a pretty girl." Steve grinned at the visual.
"Yeah, I heard half the conversation. You sounded like a total ass. But I don't think her blood alcohol level was any lower than yours at that point. The girl was drinking all night."
Maybe I'll luck out and she won't remember that night, I thought. I can just have a crush on her from afar for the rest of our lives and everything will work out fine. "I'm not sure what to do," I mumbled.
"Why not? You obviously like her."
"Yeah...but she's like, seventeen! And anyway, it didn't seem like she liked me...she hardly said anything to me!"
Steve looked at me and thought it over for a while. Finally, he said, "Then don't do anything. If she likes you, she'll probably be falling all over herself to let you know it." Then he got up and left, leaving me alone to think myself into oblivion once again.
Steve's usually right about this stuff. I guess I shouldn't do anything. She doesn't like me. I sighed and punched a pillow. Why does life have to be so unfair?
