Gahh...I think I know where this is going but I just can't write right now. Oh well...hopefully the update for Not Another Avril's Pregnant Story tomorrow will go better. Sorry about the long wait for the short update.

Avril’s POV

Conversations with my mother can get so mind-numbingly boring. Especially when she’s trying to convince me that she “loves me and only wants the best for me.”

My mom cares. It’s nice sometimes. But when I’ve just abandoned someone I love and want to be alone, it’s the most annoying thing in the world to have her trying to comfort me. She just couldn’t see that I didn’t want to be comforted right now.

I had woken up that morning, remembered the events of the previous night and why I was sleeping in my clothes, and had immediately burst into tears. Now Mom was sitting next me, stroking my hair and trying to soothe me. No matter how many times I said that I wanted to be left alone, she insisted that I shouldn’t be alone right now.

I mostly didn’t want her in the room because I was mad at her. It was more my dad’s fault that I’d left Deryck, but I was still mad at my mom. I was too upset to be rational and fair.

Finally I caved and rested my head on Mom’s shoulder. I had accepted that she wasn’t going away, and while she was here I might as well talk to her.

Mom placed her hand on my shoulder and whispered, “You need to stop being mad at your dad, honey. He’s just looking out for you.”

“How could he possibly know what’s best for me?” I fought hard to keep myself in check because I didn’t want to start crying again. If only I could show Dad the inside of my heart...then he’d know what Deryck means to me.

“He doesn’t,” sighed Mom. “He just thinks he does.” Mom and I rolled our eyes simultaneously. Men in general are so stupid.

“But he loves you. So don’t hold it against him, okay?”

“Yeah, whatever,” I mumbled. If anything, I was feeling even worse about my choice to break up with Deryck. Sensing my doubts, Mom squeezed my shoulder gently.

“I think you did the right thing, honey. It’s just asking for trouble to date someone against your father’s wishes.” I looked into Mom’s eyes. Whenever I did that, I felt like I was looking into a mirror because we have the same eyes. My mom and I are practically identical.

“But...what about my own wishes? I don’t want to leave Deryck.” So much time passed that I thought Mom wasn’t going to answer. I never broke eye contact with her, though.

Finally, we both blinked out of our trances and my mom gave me a gentle hug, saying, “Only you know what’s best for you, honey. But I think you made the right call. You and Deryck can be together when you’re older.”

I nodded, even though I didn’t feel any hope. I can be with him when I’m older...how much older? Five years? Ten? I can’t be miserable for that long just to appease my father.
