Avril’s POV

Deryck knocks the door twice and I hear mom screaming from inside.

“I’m going! Just a minute.”

I look at Deryck and give him an anxious smile; he wraps his arms around me and kisses my head. Anne is still sleeping in my arms. This girl really likes to sleep… I think she got that from me.

We went to the hospital and everything is perfect with both of us, Dr. Jones was so impressed about me giving a natural birth without anesthesia to this big baby, because Mary was right, Anne is 8.2 pounds.

I hear the door being unlocked and wait with a big smile on my face.

Mom opens the door and the first thing she sees is the baby in my arms. It was already a big surprise for her to see us here, and with a baby… I could give her a heart attack.

“OH MY GOD.” She yells looking at me and Anne back and forth.

“Hi, mom.” I say like nothing different had happened.

“WHAT… WHEN… HOW…WHY?” She starts to ramble.

“It’s a long story, mom, can we come in?” I ask and she opens the door so we can enter the house. She is still in shock.

I sit in the couch and Deryck sits next to me.

“Don’t you want to meet your granddaughter?” I ask her with a smile. Both her hands are on her face. She walks towards me slowly and look at Anne.

”Oh my God, Avril! She looks exactly like you when you were born!” She exclaims with tears on her eyes.

“Yeah… everybody says that… I think my DNA on her is on her blood, or maybe she got my intelligence… Very lucky girl, mom’s face and daddy’s brain.” Deryck jokes and I hit him playful with my free hand.

“Can I hold her?” Mom asks me.

“Of course, mom!” I say and give her Anne to her, and she starts to waking up and opens her eyes slowly. Mom has tears coming from her eyes.

“She is so beautiful.” She says. “I can’t believe my baby had a baby. But now, tell me why you didn’t tell me she was born… I really don’t understand.” She looks at us waiting for the explanation.

We tell her about the snow, and Sophie and Mary and everything. She can’t believe in what she heard.

“It’s really weird you having a baby at home these days.” Mom says coming close to me. “It must have hurt…”

“It did, but now I have her.” I say smiling at my baby.

“Oh! And what is her name?” Mom asks.

“Anne.” I say. “Anne Belle.”

“That’s cute. You know Annie, I’m your grandma, and I’m going to spoil you more than anyone. Yeah, if mom or dad does something to you, you can call grandma and I’ll defend you, no matter what.” She whispers to Anne.

“Mom!” I yell giggling.

“Hey, that’s what grandma’s are supposed to do.” Mom says and I nod. That’s true.

“Where is Michelle?” I ask. I didn’t see my sister yet.

“She is upstairs, sleeping.” Mom explains.

“I’ll go there; I can’t wait to show her the baby.” I say taking Anne, now totally awake, from mom’s arms. “Will you wait here, babe?” I ask Deryck.

“Yeah, I’ll wait here with your mom. I’m kinda afraid of the Lavigne girls when they are waken up by someone…” He says and I laugh. Yeah, Michelle and I hate when someone wakes us. But this is a special occasion.

I open the door of her room and turn on the light. She makes a mad face.

“Hey, mom, it’s still not time to wake up…” She moans without opening her eyes.

“Hey, sleepy, don’t you want to meet your goddaughter?” I ask her and she opens her eyes surprised.

“AVRIL! Oh my god! AND YOU HAVE THE BABY!” She exclaims jumping away from her bed and coming close to us. “Wait! Am I her godmother?”

“Of course! You are the closest person to me, you’re my best friend, you’re my sister. You are always there when I need you.” I say smiling. “Who else should I chose to be my girl’s guardian when I’m not around or if something happen to me or Deryck?”

Michelle has tears in her eyes.

“Thank you, Av.” She hugs me and then look at Anne. “Oh… she is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!”

“I know.” I say smiling.

“I love you, sis.” She says to me.

“I love you too.”
