Avril can't die, unless you're gonna write a story about deryck's misery

Deryck’s POV

We are losing her.
These words make me want to die. This can’t be real; this must be a nightmare. Not Avril. Not my Avril. I hold her hand tightly.

”You can’t give up, Av. You are strong; you need to fight for your life, for our baby’s life. You can’t give up.” I say despaired while tears run from my eyes. The guys keep massaging her chest and when I let my head fall hopeless, I hear the beats start to increase again. I raise my head and look at the oldest guy, whom I see on his jacket, is called Dr. Collins.

“I don’t think she’ll resist till we arrive at the hospital. She lost a lot of blood.” He says to me.

Fortunately, Avril is still alive when we arrive at the hospital and they take her directly to the emergency room. I wait for the doctor outside and those are the longest and worst minutes of my life.

After some minutes, Dr. Collins leaves the room and walk toward me.

“How is she?” I ask nervously.

“I won’t lie to you, her condition is really serious, we need to operate her right now, and we need your sign to let us do it. She tried to protect her bump when the accident happened; she moved her body trying to protect the baby. She broke her right arm and knocked her head on the dashboard, and that’s what is really serious, she lost a lot of blood and it causedan injury to the head that led to a concussion and hemorrhaging in the brain.” He explains to me. I can’t believe that… why Avril and not me? It would be a lot easier if I was the one inside that room almost dying, not Avril and our unborn kid. If I died, at least she would have the baby with her, but what am I going to do if I lose both of them? I think I’m going to die too… my life will not make sense anymore. I don’t even like to think about that.

“Please, just do everything you can to save her and the baby.” I say weakly.

“There is one more thing; she needs a blood transfusion. Do you have the same blood type?” He asks me.

“Yes, we are both A positive. I can do it.” I say. He can take all my blood if it’s going to save her life.

“Perfect, so let’s go.” He says and calls a nurse.

“He is going to donor blood for his wife, I’ll be waiting for it in the surgery room, I can’t wait anymore.” He says to her and then looks at me. “Once again, I want to be sincere with you, Mr. Whibley, her chances to survive the surgery are very low, we can’t even use a lot of medications because of the child.” Ok, I got it; I need to wait for the worst. His words are like a knife cutting my heart.


It still amazes me how life can change so suddenly… one minute everything is perfect, and the second later it can all disappears.

The nurse takes me to a room and takes my blood, after that I go to another doctor, who takes care of my broken leg and now I have a cast on it. I don’t even feel the pain, there are so many things to worry about that I completely forgot it.

I come back to the room next to where Avril is being operated. She has been there for more than two hours and I have no idea what is happening there. All I can do is wait and pray. I’m not a religious guy, but now I am in such a desperate situation, praying to God makes me feel more comfortable.

Eight hours after the surgery have started, the doctor finally leaves the room. All my body trembles when I see him.

“How is she?” I ask him directly.

although i think the best one i've ever read is when a guy's wife was in a car accident (oddly enough, their names are derek and angie and they're 21 and 26...small world, huh?) and he asks the doctor how angie is. "she said to make sure to tell you she loves you. that was the last thing she said before she..." (end of update) the next update starts with "...fell asleep." XD nice, huh?

that's a great example of maternal instinct, avril trying to protect her bump.
