2 months later, LA

Avril’s POV

“OH MY GOD! It’s so perfect!” I scream amazed when I enter the baby’s nursery. It’s finally ready and although I drew how I wanted the room, now that it’s done I can see how wonderful it is! It’s all lavender and it has a princess theme. The crib is not a normal crib; it’s white and kind of round. There are butterflies hanging on the ceiling and a doll house in the shape of a castle.

“It is, isn’t it?” Deryck says sitting in the armchair next to the crib, where I’m supposed to do the breast feed when the baby is out.

“I totally love it!” I say still impressed by the room. I don’t even want to leave here.

“It’s great that it was done on time, because the day after tomorrow we are moving to Toronto. Don’t forget the doctor’s visit, it’s schedule to next Friday.” Deryck remembers me. Mommy convinced me to have the baby with her doctor, the one who also brought me to the world. She is really great and she was my first gynecologist, back in that time when those visits used to be so embarrassing, with her asking me in front of my mom if I was virgin and things like that. But it’s going to be nice to have the baby with someone I already know and trust. We are going to see her in Toronto next week.

“Yeah… I know… I’ve already started to pack some things… I heard this winter is going to be the coldest of the last 15 years, can you imagine that?” I say raising my eyebrows. I hate cold. “I’m going to miss LA.” I sigh and sit on the floor next to Deryck and lean my back on the crib.

“Ah, a little cold won’t be that bad…” Deryck says rubbing my arm.

“Oh yeah… I wanna hear you say that once we are there in December.” I laugh sarcastically.

“Imagine how cute the baby will be inside all those big and fluffy clothes!” He says smiling and putting his hand on my bump, which I had to say is growing more and more everyday. I can’t complain about the pregnancy, the only thing that is bigger on me is the bump; the rest is all the same. Well, my boobs look bigger too, but I can’t complain about it… I have to admit I’m loving it! And Deryck loves it even more, I have to add.

“She really will.” I say smiling imagining my little girl all dressed up. Suddenly something comes to my head.

“What’s wrong?” Deryck asks me.

“We need to choose a name for her, Der. We can’t call her “she, the baby, our baby girl” forever.” I say biting my lips.

“Yeah… you are right… do you have any suggestion?” He asks me.

“I don’t know…” I say thoughtfully. “What do you think about Claire?”

“It was the name of my first girlfriend.” He says with a laugh.

“No way, then. Your turn.” I say and he and puts his finger on his chin thinking.

“Hum… Thereza?” He suggests.

“How old is our child? 50?” I open my eyes widely.

“Ok…” He says rolling his eyes.

“What about Ava?” I say.

“Oh no… everybody is naming their kids Ava, I think it’s the most popular girl name now… and anyway, her nickname would be Av, and it’s already your nickname.” He says. How difficult is to choose your baby’s name? It’s something she’s going to carry all her life.

“True… and another thing: I don’t want her to have a difficult name. I hate when people pronounce my name wrong.” I say.

“Yeah… I also hate when people spell mine wrong.” Deryck says.

“Your turn again.” I say. I can’t think about any other.

“Gertrude?” He says smiling and I narrow my eyes at him. His smile disappears.

“Ok… I think we are back to baby girl…” He says crossing his arms looking at me and then he starts to play with my belly. “Do you like it, baby girl?”

“You really suck at choosing names, I have to say. Thank God this girl has me. I can see if you were choosing it without my opinion: Gertrude Thereza Ruth Whibley, or little Gertie to the friends.” I giggle.

“I think it’s pretty cute, I don’t know why you are laughing…” He says seriously.

“It’s not going to be her name.” I say finishing the conversation.

“Fine.” He says in the end. “But I still don’t understand your reaction… I mean, your middle name is Ramona…” I just narrow my eyes at him again and he understands the message.

“Ok! I’ll shut up.” He says rolling his eyes.
