Deryck’s POV

I walk towards the kitchen to see what happened with her.

“Please, Av, don’t tell me you burn the popcorn…” I start to say but immediately stop when I enter the kitchen. Avril is sitting in a chair with both her hands on her bump. Bellow her; there is a lot of water on the floor.

“What did happen?” I ask with widely opened eyes. I know it’s a stupid question, but I want to be sure it is what I am thinking it is.

“What do you think?” She says ironically with a painful voice. “My water just broke.”

“Wha… what will we do?” I ask in shock. I was expecting this moment for so long, but now it’s happening, it’s like everything I knew about it disappeared.

“I need to go to the hospital, Deryck! Go, upstairs, take the baby’s bag, it’s on her room, on the chair, you know what it is. Then you came here and help me to go to the car, okay?” She says weakly. I nod.

”Okay… I’ll be back in a minute.” I say trying to concentrate. The baby is coming. Oh My God. It’s coming. In some hours I’ll be a father. Concentrate, Deryck. Avril needs you now. You can’t be more nervous than her. She is the one who will need to push hard and she is the one in pain.

I run to the baby’s room and take the bag. I almost fall while I’m going downstairs. My legs are shaking.

“Are you okay?” I ask panting to Avril when I enter the kitchen again. I can see the pain in her face. She opens a weak smile when she looks at me.

“First of all, you need to calm down.” She says and then lean her hands on the bump again. “The contractions are harder now. We’ve got to go.” She says gasping. I help her to stand up and wrap my arms around her.

When I open the door to leave the house I see that it’s snowing. Snowing really hard. It’s so crazy… we are still in early December!

“How are we going at the hospital?” I say when I look outside. It’s really dangerous to drive with the weather like this.

“I don’t know, Deryck! I just know we need to get there. SOON!” She says and then she screams. God, it probably really hurts. I feel so sorry for her. I hate to see her suffering.

“Let’s go.” I say helping her to get into the car.
