Following Avril out of the hospital, Angela smiled.
"Hey Avril," she said, sweetly.
"What?" Avril replied.
"Here's your purse back."
Avril stopped, dead in her tracks, almost causing Angela to run into her.
"What's wrong?" Angela asked, genuinely concerned.
Avril didn't move.
"You didn't even ask how it went," she said, quietly.
"What are you talking about," Angela scoffed, as she looked for the car. "Come on...lets just go home, and we'll..."
Avril spun around, and looked Angela dead in the eyes.
"You didn't even ask how my appointment went," she yelled.
"You didn't ask......because you don't care."
Angela rolled her eyes.
"Ummm.....ok...how was your appointment?," she asked, with little to no expression in her voice.
Taking a deep breath, Avril put her hands on her head.
"I can't believe you," she cried. "Don't even
try to pretend you're concerned now. Don't even try."
By now, a few tears had formed in Avril's eyes, but she wiped them away, refusing to let her emotions get the best of her.
"You know, at first it was ok," she continued. "You weren't excited about the pregnancy, and I get that. I do. I thought you were scared, just like me."
She looked at Angela.
"I thought the idea would grow on you.....but I was wrong."
There was a long moment of silence, as Avril tried to compose herself.
But the longer she had to think, the more she realized her anger. She wasn't done with Angela. Not yet.
"You know Angela," she began, rather calmly, " Do you know that my mother hasn't been to visit me
once....since I found out that i was pregnant. Not once...."
She looked at Angela.
Angela just stared at the ground.
"
You told me, you didn't want her to come here.....you said you didn't think she'd like you. That she wouldn't approve of us. And I accepted that. I made excuses.....to keep her away. My own mother..... I did that.....because you told me to."
By now, the tears were streaming down Avril's face, but she either didn't notice, or didn't care.
"And do you know what else," she continued, with saddness in her voice. "Do you know......that nobody's thrown me a baby shower yet.... "
She looked at Angela, her eyes filled with self-pity.
"Do you know....that none of my friends,.....
not one....have come to visit me...... since you moved in."
Ignoring the voice of reason, that was screaming inside her head, Avril walked over to Angela, and looked at her, straight in the eyes.
Whispering, she said,
"Do you realize....that since the day we met.....I've done
nothing, but alienate every single person...who's ever cared about me. Do you realize that?"
There was a long pause, as both girls looked at each other, thoughtfully.
Breaking the silence, Avril took one step closer to Angela.
"I really thought that you loved me....Angela....I really did."
Angela's face began to turn red, with anger, as Avril spoke.
"I genuinely thought, that you cared," she continued. "But I was
so wrong.....and I see that now......and now....I finally see a light at the end of my tunnel."
Pushing back all of the emotion that was surging through her body, Avril put on her bravest face, and finalized the decision that had been playing over and over, in her mind, for the past month.
"Angela," she began. "I think you need to go home, pack your stuff, and leave."
Avril watched....as Angela's expression turned, from one of hurt, and confusion, to one, of pure hatred.
Fear, rushed through her body, as she began to back away.
But Angela quickly stopped her.
A sadistic smile appeared upon her face, as she grabbed Avril by the arm, and forced her to the ground.
"I'm not going anywhere," she yelled, without concern of anyone hearing her.
"I'm not going anywhere....and neither are you."
As Angela tightening the grip on her arm, Avril began to panic.
"Angela.....please..." she whispered, as she prayed for someone to walk by and see them.
"You think you're so perfect," Angela continued on, without loosening her grasp.
"You think, just because you have
so many friends,..and......and.....fancy cars, a big house....you think you're better than me? Is that what you think?"
"No....Angela....." Avril tried to reason, but she was cut off.
"Don't....talk to me..." Angela hissed, as she looked down at Avril with disgust.
"You're mine," she continued.
"You always have been......and you always will....."
"Angela....
please," Avril interrupted, with a cry, as she held her stomach with her one free hand.
"......Something's wrong......"
Avril's face went white.
"I think I'm having the baby."
