“So when’s the wedding? Or do you know that far ahead just yet?” I asked them both. “Oh, well we were kinda wanting to get married really soon. I mean.” At that Evan looked at his shoes. “Oh my god, Sinead you’re pregnant!” I almost yelled in excitement. Evan’s face went red. “What’s wrong Evan? You look like the two year old who stole candy from the candy shop and then got caught.” I was looking at him intently. “Well it’s just, well, we didn’t mean for this to happen. The pregnancy I mean. We’ve wanted to get married for awhile.”
I smiled at him. “Honey, Chris and I were married for about a month when I found out I was pregnant. We didn’t mean for it to happen either, but it did. If you think we’ll see you differently then you’re wrong.” He visibly relaxed. “I know, but the church isn’t going to be happy with a rushed wedding.” I looked at him for a whole minute. He looked like he was going to jump out of his skin. “I didn’t know you were catholic.” I said to him.
He sighed. “Oh, that’s totally not what I thought you were going to say. I’m not catholic, but she is.” I smiled at him. “What did you think I was gonna say? I mean a few things went through my head, but I didn’t say them.”
“Oh really, Hope, what was going through your head?” Avril asked me. “Oh, for starters, Evan I was beginning to think you were gay. I mean I knew you were dating Sinead, but I was starting to think it was a cover up so no one would suspect it.” His face went red at that. “Second off, if you weren’t gay, I was thinking you’d convert to Catholicism and become a priest. Or become a monk of some sort.” He had been sipping at his water, and at that he choked. I hit him on the back to help a little. “What, come on, I mean Avril, and some of those things go through your head?” She smiled and nodded.
“Kinda, I mean before I got married, me and him we close. I mean, um, really close, but now, ha-ha I see some of the looks he gives GUYS.” I laughed at that. Evan stood up and walked to the other side of the room. “Ok guys, no more playing around. I’m STRAIGHT, and I do not really like the tone of voice you’re giving me!” I smiled and walked over to him. I gave him a hug and kissed his cheek. “You know we’re just messing with you. We love you and are very happy for you! But I think Sam might be a little upset about it all. I mean she really seemed to like you!”
