Catherine answered the door. I could hear her talking to the person. “No, I’m not Hope; she’s inside on the couch. Can I help you? I’m her sister-in-law.” The man said something, and Cat brought him into the house. “Hope wake up! Chris isn’t dead!” I sat up. “Impossible, I saw him die. I know he’s dead.” The man looked at me. “The man that you saw die, did you identify him as Chris Murray?” He asked me. “He was driving my husband’s car, and had his identification on him. Isn’t that enough proof?” I asked him back. “The man that died in that hospital bed was in fact, a man who robbed your husband. He left the real Chris Murray on the side of the highway.” I was about to pass out from relief. “My husband is ok? He’s alive and safe?” The man looked at me and smiled. “Yeah, and he’s on his way home as we speak.”

Chris walked in the house about a half hour later. I ran over to him and jumped into his arms. “Don’t ever do that to me again, I thought you were dead. I thought it was you that I watched die.” He held me tight. “You know I’d never leave you like that.” I let go of him, but kept him in arms reach. “Where did you go? I woke up and you weren’t here.” He smiled, and pulled something out of his back pocket. He placed the small box in my hand. I opened it up. “Chris, it’s beautiful!” He smiled and kissed me. “Well I figured you would like a mother’s ring. It has both the kids’ birth stone in it, and when you have the twins we can add them.” I smiled and put the ring on my right hand, ring finger.


That night, after everyone left, we were watching the evening news. When I saw what was on my jaw dropped. It was a story about a man who got killed in a motel room. “We’ll be right back after this short break.” When it came back on, I couldn’t believe my eyes. “Oh my god, Chris, do you believe this?”

“Early this morning a dead body was found in a local motel room. Police have identified this body as none other then Kenny Shine, a local teenager. Police don’t have any leads on who killed him, but they have their best men on the case. Now on for other news…”

I muted the TV. “Chris, Jeanna killed him!” I said to him, my face was white. “I know. Should we call the cops?” I shook my head. “She saved my life, and that of our unborn twins! I can’t just call the police on her!” Just then there was a knock on the door. I walked over to it and answered. “Oh my god, Jeanna, you killed Kenny!” She looked at me, and nodded. “I know I did, but it was self defense! He came after me, as soon as he woke up. He was going to hit me, so I stabbed him.” I had her come in and sit down. “Honey, you need to go to the police. Tell them that it was self defense! They won’t put you in jail for defending yourself!”
