Endless Love

Backstage was always so boring. There was nothing ever to do. Everything was set. Everything was done. All you had to do was wait. And waiting was boring. Too Boring….usually. But not today. Today, I found a way to escape the boredom.

“Avril, what are you doing? Matt is looking for you.” Evan tapped my shoulder to regain my focus. When I finally turned around, he lifted up his left eyebrow at me. “What are you looking at?”


I could tell I was blushing a bit. And no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t escape letting out a small smile.

“Nothing.” I said putting my head down. “I was just looking out into the crowd, feeling their energy. It helps me sometimes to do that.” I lifted my head up to look at Evan in the eye. I could tell by the look on his face that he knew I was lying.

“Oh please. You were staring at the opening act, weren’t you? At the lead singer! What’s his name….oh yeah….deryck whibley!” Evan said, crossing his arms at me.

I again looked down at the scratched, black floor. It was all I could do to answer Evan’s question. Even if I tried to tell Evan about what I felt, I would not know what to say in order to explain my feelings. So, therefore, I just shut up.

“Avril, it’s time to get rid of your crush for him. He’s four years older than you and that could only mean trouble. Come on, you could find someone better than him.”

I lifted my head to look at Evan. I could feel tears building up in my eyes, knowing that Evan was right. “But…Evan…how could you say that!”

“I just don’t want to see you hurt. Now promise me, you’ll forget about him.” He stared me down with his eyes. I could feel his eyes burning deep into my skin.

Evan was like a brother to me. I knew all he wanted was to see me safe. It would kill him to see me cry or break down for a guy. I wanted to tell Evan to mind his business, that he didn’t know what he was saying. But, I knew he was right. I saw cases like it all the time where girls got into trouble for dating older guys. Although Deryck was only four years older than me, it was still considered too much. And with me being only 17, I knew my parents (with Evan) would probably kill me if they saw me dating someone 21.

Finding no other way to escape Evan’s words, I finally gave in. “Fine.” I mumbled. For such a short word, it really hurt a lot to say it. It meant forgetting about Deryck. Forgetting about my feelings. Forgetting about everything.

“That’s a girl.” Evan winked and smiled at me. “Now come with me before Matt thinks you killed yourself.”

I giggled and followed Evan. But before I left, I turned back to see the love of my life one last time. Deryck didn’t know I liked him. In fact, no one knew besides myself and Evan (he was the only one I trusted with my true secrets). Looking back at him one last time, I knew I couldn’t let him go. Evan knew many things, but I knew he was wrong about one thing. Deryck would never hurt me. He was too good for that.

“Avril!” Evan turned to face me once again. I looked at him and smiled innocently.

“Sorry. Coming!”

“That was a great show!” Evan smiled at me to show that he was proud of my performance.

“Thanks, the crowd was awesome. It was hard to not give them my best.”

“So, do you want to celebrate? After all, this was the opening night of your first tour. I think it calls for celebration…and a lot of it.”

I giggled at him. I didn’t mind celebrating but I was a bit tired from the show. My eyes were closing, my legs felt heavy with each step, and I found myself dozing off in the middle of conversations. I was about to tell Evan “No thanks” before I heard….

-Deryck-

“Hey, you want to go to that new club that opened?” My band looked at me with wide, open eyes. I could tell they didn’t know what club I was talking about.

“What new club?” Stevo asked looking confused.

“Ummm, I think it’s called Koi. It’s somewhere in West LA. Since we’re nearby, I thought we could check it out.”

“OK! You should know, by now, that we do not turn down an opportunity that could get us drunk.” Stevo gave me a smile and patted me on the back.

Everyone in my band giggled, even myself. Stevo was always the joker in the group. Although we took it as a joke, something inside me told me that he wasn’t joking. He just loved being drunk.

“Ok, lets go.” Stevo said impatiently. “Maybe I can find a cute little bartender to take home with me tonight.” Stevo winked at me.

“Stevo, even if you find a cute bartender, I doubt she’ll really want you.” I laughed, as did Stevo and the rest of my band. Then, we left for Koi.

-Avril-

I smiled to myself, knowing I had found a way to get closer to the love of my life. “Um, guys, you want to go to Koi? You know, that new club that opened up in West LA?” I kept my cool. I didn’t want anyone to suspect anything, especially Evan.

“OK, I love Koi.” Evan grabbed me by the hand and pulled me toward outside. Everyone else followed. We got into the limo assigned to us and through it all, I counted my chances of getting Deryck to notice me that night. If he didn’t notice me tonight, chances were he never would. So, I prayed, that for once in my life the person I liked would notice me.
