Earthquake

Ok, guys, here's an update for you. Oh, and thanks for the comments, I'm glad you like the story. Anyway, I won't get to update for a few days since I'm staying at a house with no internet, but if I get any chance to update, I will.

By now, Avril had taken a seat on one couch and Evan sat on the opposite one. So far, Evan's attempt at getting her mind off of the situation had worked.

"Remember that time you got shitfaced and fell flat on your face?" He asked, laughing.

"I couldn't forget that even if I wanted too, Evan," She joked.

"Good times, huh?"

"Amen," Avril replied, leaning back on the couch. A small tear trickled down her face.

"What's wrong?" Evan asked, worriedly.

"I know you're trying really hard to calm me down, and I appreciate it, believe me. But, I can't get my mind off of him. I mean, what if something bad happened?" She admitted, another tear slipping from her blue eyes.

"Shit, Av, don't think like that," Evan said. "I'm sure he's fine. The phone lines are just knocked out from the quake. Believe me, he's probably just as worried as you are."

Avril sighed and twirled a strand of her blonde hair in boredom, "Yeah, I guess you're right. I shouldn't get so worked up over nothing. Besides, if something bad happened, I'd know it by now."

"Yeah, there you go. Everything's fine. Now, come on, let me see that beautiful smile of yours," Evan said, trying to get her to smile for the first time after the incident.

Avril let a small smile glow on her lips.

"There we go. See, everything's going to be alright, I promise. Now, why don't you go wash up, okay?"

She nodded, "Alright. Thanks, Ev." With that, she got up and went upstairs to take a shower, leaving Evan in the living room.


A few minutes later, Avril came back down the stairs. Now, she wore a white tank top and purple pajama pants with little white stars scattered across the comfortable fabric.

"Feel better?" Evan asked.

"Yeah, but I'm tired as hell."

"Why don't you lay down on the couch and when I hear from Deryck, I'll wake you up?" He offered.

"Sounds like a plan to me," Avril answered, lying down on the couch opposite from Evan.

Within a few minutes, Avril was fast asleep, silence settling within the house once more. Now, Evan, who was half asleep, would wait for any sign of Deryck. He'd admit it was a boring job, but he'd do anything for his best friend without a doubt.

I've only got like one update left after this one. I don't really know how to keep it going, so after this update and one more, it'll be finished and then I'll think of some ideas for a new story.

At around nine o'clock at night, Deryck sat, his expression blank. The store manager came up to him, "Umm, Mr.Whibley, you're free to go now. The debris is gone but the phone lines are still knocked out."

Slowly, Deryck looked up at the man and nodded, "Thank you." He said, getting up and speed walking to his car. He had completely forgotten about the groceries, but that didn't matter. Nothing mattered except for Avril.

The whole drive home, that girl was on his brain. He couldn't get her out of his mind, but that was fine. He loved her so much and could only hope that no harm had come to her, or Evan. Evan was like Avril's brother. He'd always been there for her and would continue to be. Deryck really appreciated him.

Quickly, he pulled up the driveway, switched the car off and bounded from the car. He frantically unlocked the door to find Evan half asleep and Avril sleeping on the opposite couch, a worried expression gnawing at her beautiful features.

Hearing the door open and close, Evan blinked his eyes a couple of times then stood, quietly. He let a sigh of relief escape him as he approached Deryck. He gave him a brotherly hug. "She's been so worried about you," Evan said, looking at Avril, who was still sleeping soundly.

"Is she okay?" Deryck asked, concerned for the love of his life.

Evan nodded, "Yeah, yeah, she's fine."

"And you?" Deryck questioned.

"I'm fine," Evan replied, walking over to the couch. He bent down and whispered, "Hey, Av, Deryck's home."

Yawning, Avril awoke, her eyes slowly opening. It took her a second to comprehend what Evan had said but when she did, she jumped up and ran into his arms, crying. "Oh my God, I was so scared and then when I couldn't reach you-"

Deryck kissed her forehead, "Shh...it's okay." He said, holding her close and rubbing her back, gently.

She looked up at him, her teeth gnawing at her lower lip momentarily. Without warning, she pushed her lips up against his, not wanting to let go.

Deryck responded to her kiss quickly but ended it soon afterward. "Are you okay?"

She nodded, wiping her tears away with her arm, "Yeah, I'm fine," She chuckled, "I had Evan to take care of me."

Deryck, looked over to Evan who was standing nearby, smiling. "Hey, thanks, man."

Evan's smile grew bigger while Deryck held Avril in his arms, "Don't mention it."

Deryck ended the embrace slowly said, "I'm fucking tired. I'm going to go wash up."

Avril nodded, "Alright, I'll make sure Evan gets home safe. I don't want my hero getting mugged," She joked, hitting Evan's arm.

With that, Deryck went upstairs and Avril and Evan walked outside.

"Some day, huh?" Avril asked.

"Yeah, no kidding," He answered, yawning. "You know, since you're such an emotional wreck right now, I hate asking you this because you'll rip my head off like a PMS'ing psycho-bitch, but-"

"A PMS'ing psycho-bitch? Umm, that's not for a few more weeks, hun, but continue," She added, laughing.

"Don't you want to give your hero a hug?" He asked, chuckling.

Avril cracked up, "Aww, of course," She latched her arms around his neck and laughed. Evan was the best friend a girl could possibly have. He was sweet, funny, and he'd never abandon you.

Evan held on for dear life then stepped back.

"How was that? Satisfied?" She teased.

"That hug was simply the shit, Av," He joked.

"I know, right? It was like the hug of a lifetime."

He grabbed his knee and sighed a fake passionate sigh, "I'm weak at the knee!"

Avril burst into laughter, "Shit, get your ass out of here before I piss on myself for laughing so hard!"

Evan laughed along with her then turned and began to walk to his house, his guitar case in his hand.

She shook her head, chuckling. "I'll see you tomorrow?"

He turned and looked at her, shrugging slightly, "I guess so."

"Alright," she nodded, "See you later, boy."

With that, she turned around and walked inside, anxious to talk to Deryck after their long day.

Ok, so here's the final update of this story. I couldn't think of any way to continue it. Thanks for all the comments and I hope you all liked the story.

After he left, Avril stood, watching her best friend walk to his house. Evan was most definately the best friend a girl could have. She couldn't ask for anything more in a friend. He was just so sweet. After watching him until he reached his house, she smiled, turned around, and walked inside to find Deryck picking up the peices of broken glass scattered across the kitchen floor.

Slowly, she walked over to him and rubbed his back, "One hell of a day, huh?"

He threw away the handful of glass, "Yeah, without a doubt. I would've called you but the phone lines were knocked out and the parking lot was blocked by debris."

She smiled, "It's fine. You're here now, aren't you? That's all that matters to me. Gosh, I was so worried about you and when I got the dial tone on the phone, I expected the worst."

"Yeah, I know. I'm sorry. When I was told by the manager that I couldn't call anyone and that I couldn't leave, you were the only thing in my mind. It's like you're an addiction, but the one addiction I don't want to ever stop craving. It's the best feeling."

"Aww, you're so sweet."

He smiled and blushed, "Ah, well, I just want to make you happy. I am, aren't I? At least, I hope I am. That's all I ever want to do."

She gave him a small kiss, "Do you really need any more proof? You make me the happiest girl on earth. I wouldn't trade that for anything."

Deryck smiled again, "That's good," He yawned, "Shit, I'm worn out. I'm gonna go to bed." He said, giving her a small kiss before he headed to their room. "Oh, I almost forgot: if there's ever another earthquake, we need to make sure we tape the cabinets so they won't open. I've never seen so much fucking glass in my life." He teased.

Avril chuckled and followed him into their room. "I'll be sure to do that."

Slowly, they climbed into bed after turning off the lights.

"I love you," Avril said, cuddling as closely to him as physically possible.

Deryck smiled and wrapped his arms around her, "I love you too."

Then, within minutes, the two were fast asleep.
