So I'm thinking about getting an iPod touch. I know at least one person got one for Christmas, as per the "What I Got..." thread, and just so my questions don't get lost in that thread, I figured I'd make my own.
So, a few questions:
1) I know it has the Safari browser, but is it like, a full browser, or just limited Touch-supported sites, like how on a cell phone you can only get certain phone-versions of sites? Like... would I be able to get on, say, Bandaids on an iPod Touch?
2) I currently have a Creative Zen Microphoto. I know iPods play some weird non-mo3 format and that's what iTunes initially rips songs to (I had to convert everything when I got my Zen), but do iPods play mp3s or would I have to convert everything (mainly the stuff I ripped after changing the format to mp3)?
3) Is the touch-screen a bitch to use, or is it pretty simple and not frustrating?
You could have answered all these questions yourself by reading Apple's site.
1) yes, you can view any non-flash site
2) yes, it plays mp3
3) very simple
Well, Apple's not gonna tell me if the touch screen is a pain in the ass. And they aren't specific about whether or not it's a full browser, just that it has Safari. But like, my cell phone can go on the internet too but you can't get full sites.
Well I have one, and I like it lots everythings fine about safari just that u cant view videos other than those from youtube, and you'd like to get a cover for the touch screen though one thats anti scratch, cause it gets oily and finger print stains stay there i only did get the cover after like1 month. its better now, and as for the songs, i have no idea.

They are very specific that it's a full browser because Safari is a full browser

.m4a. You can set iTunes so that when copying audio files from, say, CDs, it stores them in mp3 format right away. What I do with CDs is rip them with Windows Media Player (set to rip songs to mp3 format, otherwise WMP would normally rip songs to wma format, and you'd still have to convert them to m4a to put in your iTunes library) and then drag and drop the files into my iTunes library (but I do this only because I think WMP rips faster that iTunes).
I'll answer what I can. I have an Ipod Touch and I love it. The Web Browser of the touch isn't like it is on a cell phone at all. My dad has a black berry, and on the sites that he can visit, it reformats the website into some list format that can be annoying. The Ipod Touch isn't like that at all. It displays the website just like it would on your computer. You can double tap to zoom into a certain parts of the page or pinch out of the screen to zoom in, or pinch in to zoom out. or w/e way, I'm tired, so you get the point of the zoom. Next if you would perfer to see your Ipod touch layout horizontally, just turn and hold your ipod touch horizontally and it will change the layout to horizontal view. So Safari is great on the touch. Initially, it may seem a little hard to type because you may find yourself hitting the wrong letters on accident, but within no time, you will be able to type pretty quickly without a problem.
In General the touch Screen is awesome I think. I never find my self pressing the button 4543543 times just to get to where I'm going and you can easily navigate through.
I love the touch coverflow part. You have your list of artists, turn the ipod horizontally and you can slide through your album covers with your finger. Double tap on the album you like, it brings up a list of songs on that album, scroll through that via finger as well.
So overall I love love love my ipod touch.
Since I've Jailbroken it, and added games, MobileScrobbler, GBA Emulater with 2 games, and a few other things, I love it even more.
So far it comes in 8GB and 16GB versions. If you have a ginormous music library then you may want to wait though, because Roumer has it a 32 GB is comming out sometime next year. Just a Roumer though.
Also, I do you should get a case for it. I highly reccomend, the Griffin Iclear case for the Ipod Touch. This is becaise it isn't bulky, It looks nice, it isn't distracting, it protects your ipod, and it just looks really good on the Ipod Touch. Really good... I love the case. Also on ilounge.com, they gave it an A- and to them it means, "Highly Recommended" Griffin iClear for iPod touch | iLounge iPod Accessory Reviews

You think Apple is going to depict it accurately? They want to sell it. They're going to make it sound like God made it with his own two hands then threw it upon the earth. It's called being biased. No, she was right to ask here. You can only get the right information by asking someone who actually has one.

Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein
There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.
Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.
Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.
