In camaraderie with Robert Pattinson, who plays the mustachioed Salvador Dali in his new film Little Ashes, HX/Out Magazine had a screening of the film where the entire audience donned a fake mustache! Is that Mario and Luigi up front?
Alex Meraz, a fellow wolf pack member in New Moon with Taylor Lautner, reveals that the two put their background in martial arts to good use–in their free time, the duo perform martial arts together!
Meraz, who plays a volatile member of the wolf pack named Paul, tells us he and fellow furry friend Taylor Lautner often pass the time between shooting doing martial arts, including karate and backflips.
“The wolf pack is like brothers,” squealed Meraz, eagerly.
The crew is currently shooting in Vancouver, and Meraz says it is going “great.” He adds that the sequel, in his humble estimation, will definitely be superior to the original.
“It gets bigger, better and more exciting,” gushed Meraz.
Alex Meraz, who plays the badboy wolf Paul in New Moon, reveals that a fan took his role a bit too seriously, giving him a hard time for the character he is playing–
“Someone started yelling at me because they didn’t like my character,” Meraz told us last night at a Carrera Vintage Sunglasses party at the Chateau Marmont hotel.
“I play a bad boy, so she got mad at me,” he added. “She said, ‘I hate you, Paul!’ That was the craziest thing for me—being confused for a character.”
Meraz’s response to the hater?…
“I yelled back at her, ‘I love you, too!’” he said.
He also revealed that he doesn’t think he can compare to Robert Pattinson in the sex symbol category (I beg to differ!)–
“I’m happy to have just a smidgen of what he’s got…I’m not worried about being a sex symbol.”
New Moon screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg dishes on her experience on the New Moon set in Vancouver in a post on her Facebook page. Apparently, everything is going phenomenally well–
Writing from the set of New Moon, a ridiculously happy place to be. Everyone is having a gas. Especially me. You’d expect at least one person to be snarky after working so hard for so long but I haven’t heard a single sour note.
Chris Weitz is the zen ringmaster doing a fantastic job. The Volturi look amaaaazing. Michael Sheen embodies Aro so completely, elevating the role to a whole new level. Dakota as Jane knocks me out. Rob and Kristen are gorgeous of course and and and… I probably shouldn’t gush so much, no one will believe that everything is perfect but it is!
It’s great to hear that everything is going so smoothly! I always had some concerns about the tight schedule of the movie, but it sounds like Chris Weitz is handling the pressure like a champ!
There’s another contest to win a trip to the set of New Moon in Montepulciano, Italy. This time, it’s for Danish residents. MTV has the details, and here is the translated version–

It may come as a shock to most, but Twilight’s leading vampire is never one to make
the first move when it comes to the ladies.
British stud, Robert Pattinson, has admitted that he likes women who take care of their
bodies and are not afraid to make the first move.
The Edward Cullen actor explains, “I like people being forward. I like strong people,
chiseled abs. I don’t really know what else I look for, I take what I can get.”
In other news, Robert’s latest film “Little Ashes,” in which he re-enacts a gay love
scene, hits limited theaters today (May 8).
When Summit Entertainment hit it big with "Twilight," it followed up almost immediately
with plans for three more films based on the Stephenie Meyer novels, with the sequels
seen as a good bet for a B.O. windfall.
But even amid its heavy investment in the teen-friendly saga, Summit is trying to avoid
the temptation to turn its slate into all vampires, all the time.
The mini-studio is sticking to its original strategy of releasing and distributing 10-12 films
per year, including eight inhouse productions, with a focus on the mid-range films that
the majors are less likely to greenlight.
The company is mindful of the pitfalls of shifting an overall strategy for the sake of
quick success.
"History's great for that reason," says Rob Friedman, who heads Summit along with
Patrick Wachsberger. "There are bodies buried everywhere in Hollywood from places
that changed their focus once they had some success."
Before Summit released "Twilight," it had a string of five consecutive disappointments.
But the company's approach got another recent boost with the success of Nicolas
Cage starrer "Knowing," proving, says Wachsberger, "we're more than just a one-trick
pony." Another reason for this stick-to-their-guns approach has to do with the message
Summit is trying to send to the Hollywood community: "Our idea was to eliminate the
silos and involve the various disciplines in all of the decisionmaking," Friedman says.
"Studios are great, but as you stay at a studio, you wind up doing more administering
than anything else. So we're telling people that they'll be able to do more of the
creative work that made them fall in love with the business in the first place."
Summit is keeping its pipeline going with an eclectic mix, mostly in the $20 million-$50
million budget range. Aside from the third "Twilight," the most likely projects to hit the
screen in 2010 and 2011 include a rebirthing of the "Highlander" franchise; DC Comics
adaptation "Red"; romantic fare including "Memoirs" and "If I Stay," the latter directed
by "Twilight" helmer Catherine Hardwicke; comedies like Steven Brill's "Parental
Guidance"; the time-travel sci-fier "Arena"; a remake of Korean thriller "Seven Days";
and a Harry Houdini biopic.
Over the past two years, Friedman and Wachsberger have transformed Summit from
a foreign sales company into a full-service production and distribution studio, and their
timing has been fortunate. Friedman, who had most recently been vice chairman at
Paramount, came aboard in April 2007, as Summit announced a $1 billion financing deal
with Merrill Lynch and a consortium of investors.
"We would not be able do that deal now," Wachsberger admits. "The appetite for our
movies is the same but the financial climate is completely different."
The backgrounds of Wachsberger and Friedman are a study in contrasts. Wachsberger,
a Frenchman, is a calm, courtly man who speaks softly with a distinct Euro accent. His
expertise is in the international market: As a young man he was a partner in a small
Brit-based production operation that focused on the overseas territories. He's spent
the last 25 years making the rounds at Cannes and the AFM, selling foreign rights to
projects on the upper end of the independent scale.
Friedman, cautious in conversation, is a veteran of buttoned-down Hollywood studio
culture, having logged many years with the Daly-Semel machine at Warner Bros., where
he was chief of marketing and PR, before moving to Paramount.
"When we started this company, we were focused on hitting singles and doubles," says
Friedman. "We've hit a home run with 'Knowing.' " The sci-fier has grossed $78 million
in the U.S. and $144 million worldwide.
Achieving success has demanded patience. Summit's first five releases -- "Fly Me to the
Moon," "Never Back Down," "P2," "Penelope" and "Sex Drive" -- hardly lit the box office
on fire, with a combined domestic cume of $60 million. The situation was dire enough
that last fall, Lionsgate and Summit held informal merger talks.
The discussions didn't lead anywhere, partly because it was becoming increasingly
obvious that Summit had a serious hit coming in "Twilight."
Friedman admits that Summit got a big break last summer when Warner Bros. decided
to delay its sixth Harry Potter pic from November to July -- turning "Twilight" into the
de facto youth event movie of the fall season.
In its first weekend, "Twilight" grossed $69 million, more than the combined gross of
all other Summit films. The pic has grossed $191.5 million domestically and is nearing
$400 million in worldwide grosses.
"I anticipated it would do maybe $100 million domestically," Wachsberger admits.
Now that "Twilight" has launched a reliable franchise, Summit has established a measure
of security -- much like Lionsgate has with the "Saw" and Tyler Perry titles.
The second pic -- "Twilight Saga: New Moon" -- is due out Nov. 20, and the third,
"Eclipse," opens June 30, 2010. No release date has been set for the adaptation of
the fourth and final novel in Meyer's series, "Breaking Dawn."
But Summit is also plotting more romantic comedies, particularly those with international
appeal -- less like "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and more like "Four Weddings and a
Funeral." Meanwhile, it's enduring the inevitable flood of ideas for other bloodsucker
pics even as it seeks to stake a claim on a more diverse slate.
"When 'Twilight' broke out, we got a lot of vampire scripts," Friedman says, "But
'Knowing' has really confirmed that we're doing a broad range of projects and that
we're not a genre company."
* “20 Stars Who Weren’t Even Born When Empire Started”
Kristen Stewart was featured on Empire Online’s list of “20 Stars Who Weren’t Even
Born When Empire Started”, listed as number 18.
18 - Kristen Stewart
You know her from: Panic Room, Into The Wild, Twilight.
Why's she good? She's a good indie actress, having made her name in a succession
of incredibly hip films from Panic Room to Undertow to the upcoming Adventureland,
via occasional bigger outings in Zathura, Jumper and of course Twilight.
Will she have an adult career? Twilight will keep her busy for a few years to come, and
the fact that she's lined up a turn as Joan Jett next suggests that she's anxious to keep
mixing it up. Assuming she doesn't get bored with the business and give up, we expect
to see her around for years to come.

* Celeb Heat Index: Pattinson reaches the peak of hotness
Robert Pattinson is hotter than Brad Pitt this week.
After a steady rise, the 22-year-old Twilight star has hit No. 1 on USA TODAY's
Celebrity Heat Index, which measures media exposure. Pattinson is only half of the
centerpiece cover image on the current issue of OK! and made No. 1 only on
PopSugar.com's list of top stories, but he makes enough appearances in other
outlets (TV, online and print) to put him ahead of the pack for the first time.
Pattinson was No. 3 on the index for April, and USA TODAY noted that his star was
on the rise as photos from the set of the Twilight sequel, New Moon, began circulating.
And if paparazzi shots weren't enough, Entertainment Tonight aired official
behind-the-scenes video from the set on TV and online.
Tabloids have remained fixated on Pattinson's relationships with co-stars and possible
romantic interests.
Rounding out the top 10 this week: Brad Pitt, Pattinson's New Moon co-star Kristen
Stewart, TLC reality stars Jon and Kate Gosselin, Kirstie Alley, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer
Aniston, Elizabeth Edwards and Ryan and Trista Sutter (tie).
The entire crew was at the cafe in yaletown: robert pattinson, kristen stewart, ashley
greene, rachelle and her lil sister, stephenie myer, dakota fanning, david slade, michael
sheen, jaime, cameron bright, the list goes on and on and on...we saw many of them.
Pix n video coming soon.
Today at work a co-worker told me she used to live at "Jacob's House"
Her ex still lives there - but they split.
She told me how a lady came by in February to view the house and kept saying
how "perfect" it was for the "Untitles Sports Movie" they were planning to film in
town. She said she kept thinking "why would a sports movie need a dump-of-a-house
like this?"
Ha ha ha if only they knew THEN what they know NOW!!!!
Anyways - she showed me her photos - and I will share them with you. If you re-post
them please credit them back as she gave me permission to use them (although i
warned her the twi-world is full of people taking and using pics as their own) please
be respectful!
* Gil Birmingham Blogs about his New Moon Experience
It took a few days for me to unwind after returning from the set of New Moon this
week. Vancouver is an amazing city, and I was able to meet many of the dedicated
Twilight/New Moon fans who were there during the filming. Making a movie like New
Moon isn’t always easy, but working with these talented actors made for a great
experience, in spite of the long hours. One shoot went all night, until 6 in the morning.
Very tiring, yes...but very rewarding. The new wolf pack members made it even more
exciting to run with the wolves again in New Moon. After a few days of rest, I’m
heading off to work on a few more projects, and I look forward to the filming of Eclipse
later this year. I hope to be announcing more appearances and projects in the coming
months. I appreciate the love and support that you, my fans, continue to provide. I try
to answer the messages you send me as time permits. If I cannot respond, please know
that I do read what you send and appreciate all your comments and well wishes.

* YA Zombies to Hit the Big Screen; Kristen Stewart Likely to Star
Carrie Ryan's young adult zombie novel The Forest of Hands and Teeth has just been
sold to Seven Star Pictures, the studio behind Kristen Stewart's upcoming movie K-11.
The novel, which was published in March by Delacorte Books for Young Readers, has
been an instant hit with critics and book bloggers. It tells the story of Mary, a girl living
in a small village bordered by a fence to keep out the Unconsecrated -- savage zombies
intent on destroying the town and everyone in it. Add a little bit of romance and a gutsy
female heroin, and you've got a teen thriller to rival Twilight.
Rumor has it that an A-list actress is tipped to star in the movie (could it be Kristen
Stewart?), and a first draft of the screenplay is being written as soon as possible. With
the popularity of vampires, werewolves, and all things supernatural currently dominating
the literary world, it seems book adaptations are the way to go. What could be next?
Our money's on Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments trilogy. Somewhere, somebody will
be closing a movie deal on that one soon.
E! Online’s Daily 10 talks about Rob’s joking remark regarding his love scene in Little
Ashes. Their segment includes a little more of a scene we posted recently where Dali
talks about going to Paris.
Looking to be thoroughly enjoying himself, Robert Pattisnson attended a big cast party
for “New Moon” in Yaletown, Vancouver on Friday night (May 8).
Taking place at the Blue Water Cafe, the Edward Cullen actor was seen taking cigarette
breaks with co-star Kristen Stewart, described as being “very animated as he chatted
with friends outside the bar.”
Also in attendance for the night out on the town were Rob and Kristen’s co-stars
including Taylor Lautner, Dakota Fanning and Rachelle Lefevre, along with writer
Stephanie Meyer.
Upon finishing up with the celebration, Pattinson hopped inside a limo alongside Miss
Stewart - with the two being driven away to get a little much-needed rest.
* Dakota Fanning and Rachelle Lefevre: “New Moon” Mates
Already making friends up north, Dakota Fanning was spotted chumming it up with “New
Moon” co-star Rachelle Lefevre in Vancouver, Canada on Friday (May 8).
The pair, who brought Rachelle’s little sis along for the outing, ended up arriving at Blue
Water Cafe for a cast members party being thrown at the local eatery.
As previously reported by Gossip Girls, Miss Fanning arrived in Vancouver for work on
the “Twilight” sequel earlier this week.
A new addition to the original “Twilight” cast, Dakota will be playing a character named
Jane, described as “a sinister vampire with an angelic exterior.”
Cam Gigandet keeps his arm wrapped around costar Minka Kelly on the set of their new
movie, The Roommate, at a downtown park in Los Angeles on Friday (May 8).
Earlier in the day, Minka was seen warming up to film a jogging scene. Cam was seen
smoking a cigarette between takes.
Also spotted earlier in the day: Cam and girlfriend Dominique Geisendorff taking their
daughter Everleigh Ray, 3 weeks, to lunch at the Cheesecake Factory in Beverly Hills,
Calif. The couple was joined by Cam’s parents Jay and Kim.
20+ pictures inside of roommates Cam Gigandet and Minka Kelly…
R.Pattz's acting was awful in Twilight, so I really wonder about Little Ashes. Have you
read any reviews? Is it any good at all? Thanks.
—ilariacapasso, via Twitter
Critics remain way underwhelmed by Robert Pattinson's channeling of artist Salvador
Dalí in Little Ashes. Call it a lack of—tee hee—sparkle. A few were impressed—the
London Daily Express calls Pattinson's take "a spirited performance." But most agree
with MTV's Kurt Loder, who says, "As soon as Pattinson steps forth with Dalí's famous
up-twirled mustaches pasted to his face, the picture collapses."
Well, meow to you, too.
That isn't necessarily bad news for Pattinson fans, however, especially if you're open to
a long-term love affair...
Despite the mixed reviews, veteran casting directors are calling Pattinson's choice in
films brilliant, especially if he wants a long career.
"Tween girls buy movie tickets but don't win you Oscars," says casting exec Lisa Hamil,
who worked on The Notebook and Alpha Dog as well as the new film One-Eyed
Monster. "Hollywood is very quick to typecast, and once that happens, an actor's career
can flatline."
Here's where tweenie fans may feel a bit of panic.
"All of us would still attempt to cast him in tween roles, but I'd be shocked (and a little
disappointed) if he took another one," Hamil reveals. "It's the same reason Daniel
Radcliffe did Equus. These guys are in it for the long haul and have learned this
elemental truth: You grow up with your audience."
In other words, once the Twilight franchise wraps, kids, don't look for Pattinson in
another teen-candy role. Even vampires need to grow up sometime.
