Having made his way back to the States, “Twilight” hunk Robert Pattinson was
spotted visiting a studio in Venice, California on Saturday (May 9).
Sporting his classic style in a plaid shirt, jeans and ray-ban sunglasses, the Edward
Cullen actor stopped inside for a short while before finishing up and heading out to
his nearby car.
Interestingly enough, actress Emmy Rossum also paid a visit to the very same
studio - looking as if the pair may be teaming up for a new movie.
As previously reported by Gossip Girls, Robert just made the trip back to the States
after enjoying a “New Moon” cast party in Vancouver the previous night.
* Twilight Moms: Mothers' relationships grow through popular book
FARMINGTON — Words have power. They have an effect that can bring people with
like minds together. That is what the words of Arizona author Stephenie Meyer have
done since 2005 when her first novel, "Twilight" was published.
Women who read the book discovered a link that developed into a passion for Meyer
and her characters.
"I fell into this world. I read the books, and I was out-of-my-mind obsessed with them,"
said Lisa Hansen, a 36-year-old mother of two children: Rebecca, 10, and Caleb, 6.
Hansen was a happily married woman who could not stop thinking about "Twilight"
and Meyer's other novels in the series, "New Moon," "Eclipse" and "Breaking Dawn." Not
sure what to do or who to talk to, Hansen posted a note on her MySpace page asking
other fans to come forward.
"I was looking for 30-something moms and married people who were obsessed like I
was," she said. It took a couple of days, and a MySpace group was created, bearing
the name of Twilight Moms.
"I knew how lonely and out-of-place everyone felt," said Hansen, who lives outside of
Salt Lake City. What she thought would be a group of
10 fans turned into a founding aspect of the "Twilight" fandom.
Twilightmoms.com has 29,000 members across the world. It is a Web site that often
is visited by Meyer and the stars of the movie "Twilight" that was released in November
2008, to the pleasure of not just screaming high school girls.
Hansen believed that the not-too-much older women in love with the Twilight series
probably were just an obscure group of people not wanting to admit that they
enjoyed reading and rereading a young adult fiction book about star-crossed lovers
Bella and Edward.
As the site grew, however, Hansen "felt totally validated."
The plot
But what was it about "Twilight" that made all of these women and some men crazy?
Vicki Ulibarri, of Farmington, believes it is being able to experience young love all over
again through the eyes of a normal teenage girl.
The girl, Bella, is the product of a failed marriage. She moves to a small Washington town
to live with her father, the police chief. Soon after her arrival Bella notices the Cullens.
They are different than everyone else. They don't really associate with other teens.
The Cullens are vampires, but they are vegetarians — they don't drink human blood.
Not wanting to be monsters, they exist on animal blood. Bella falls in love with the
youngest Cullen, Edward. Not only do sparks fly, but the human girl finds herself swept
up in a supernatural world that is exciting and romantic.
If it sounds unusual, it is. The "Twilight" series is not the typical vampire saga. It is more
romance than horror, and it most definitely is rated PG.
That's what led Ulibarri to recommend the novel to her 30-year-old daughter
Summer King.
"It had been popping up on my Amazon account for years, but I kept shutting it
down," King said.
One lonely day in Albuquerque, however, King picked up the book.
"I couldn't put it down," she said, admitting that her children wondered why she was
spending so much time reading.
"They know we're obsessed," Ulibarri said Friday as her granddaughters Hannah, 6,
and Victoria, 4, crawled in her lap.
Victoria flashed a big smile. Her teeth were pointed.
"I want to be a vampire," she said giggling as the plastic teeth fell out of her mouth.
Ulibarri shook her head and laughed at the sight, because she too became obsessed
with "Twilight" not long after King read the books.
"I gave her my first copy of Twilight' with a note in the book that said, If there is a fire
in the house, rescue this book,'" King said.
The words of Meyer worked their magic again, revitalizing and strengthening the
relationship between this mother and daughter.
"It's made us so much closer," Ulibarri said. "We always had a great relationship, but
now every night is a slumber party."
King recently moved in with her parents. They are helping her with the girls and new
baby boy Madden, 2 months old. This is because her husband, Jared King, is working
in Colorado Springs, Colo., and the family is waiting to sell a house before moving.
"It's been fun having them live with us," said Ulibarri, who works as a surgical assistant
in a local dental office.
A family thing
King is the eldest of Ulibarri's four children, and she is the only daughter. Of the three
boys — Shea, 27, Sean, 24, and Mackenzie, 21 — Sean is the only Twilighter.
"He secretly read the books," King said.
Sean even became an honorary Twilight Mom, when he visited the movie set of
"Twilight" and snagged the first official photograph of Robert Pattinson, who stars as
Edward in the films.
Since that time, Ulibarri was mentioned in a fan book about Pattinson. She also was
invited to participate in a number of Twilight Mom events, including book and movie
release parties and book-signing events.
Sean became a friend of Meyer's by sending her the photo and communicating with
her by e-mail.
This entire family is swept up in the world that is "Twilight," yet there are other
stories similar to theirs, according to Hansen. She said "Twilight" continues to bring
people together.
"It's brought me and my sisters closer together. It's brought mothers and sons closer
together," she said.
"Twilight" also is multi-generational, appealing to people of all ages.
"The older generation and the teenage generation, we're able to relate on a
different level," Hansen said. "It's more than this awesome vampire book that we're all
obsessed with. It opened up lines of communication between all different people."
Twilightmoms.com is about keeping that line of communication open. Free membership
is available to women 25 years of age and older with children.
The site is monitored to keep it clean.
"We're totally normal people in the real world. This Web site has become a platform
for regular wholesome human beings," Hansen said.
Check out this mockup of the New Moon wolf pack tattoo, based on the picture of the wolf pack that was released in April. A friend of TwiFans made this illustration in Photoshop as a best guess of what the finished tattoo looks like up close.
I’m definitely seeing a few things like you might in a Rorschach inkblot from this illustration. Anyone else see the head-on face of a wolf, with the nose at the bottom and eyes on either side at the top? How about two symmetric wolves sitting on their hind legs in profile, facing each other while howling, with their mouths meeting at the top center?
Michael Sheen has a couple of fun new tweets–in one he reveals that the entire Volturi crew is having their official photoshoot for promotional pictures:
just did a big photoshoot for publicity stills- all the Volturi. We are one freaky looking bunch.
He also takes a shot at describing his version of Aro:
Have decided my Aro is a cross between the Blue Meanie, the Childcatcher and Nick Cave. But with red eyes.
Vancity Allie has a great report of her experience seeing some of the New Moon cast at the Blue Water party last night, as well as castmembers around town earlier in the day. Interestingly, there were quite a few large manuscript-looking items given out–
I saw a couple cast members holding thick manuscripts, including Rob, so I’m PRETTY sure they were possibly giving out Eclipse scripts (with David Slade, Stephenie and Melissa doesn’t it seem possible?). How cool is that?
Robert Pattinson walks and talks with a gal pal as they leave their Beverly Hills hotel
on Sunday afternoon (May 10).
The 22-year-old British actor is in town to test screen for his upcoming flick, Remember
Me. The movie will also possibly star Emmy Rossum.
The drama, set to hit theaters in 2011, centers on two lovers whose newfound
relationship is threatened as they try to cope with their respective family tragedies.
Enjoying a leisurely Mother’s Day stroll, Robert Pattinson was spotted spending time
with a gal pal in Beverly Hills on Sunday afternoon (May 10).
Sporting a black hoodie, black t-shirt and black jeans, the “Twilight” hunk and his lady
friend left the Beverly Hills Hotel, enjoying the beautiful weather as Robert readies to
do a little pre-filming work for his upcoming movie, “Remember Me”.
The afternoon outing comes shortly after actress Megan Fox shot down past rumors
linking herself to Pattinson.
She tells, “I just randomly asked someone for a light, and it was him. That was the
extent of our ‘relationship’”
“He (Robert) and Zac (Efron)—they’re just too pretty, with the big hair and the
suits. And Rob is what, 22? That’s a joke. Boys in their 20s are a waste of time. They
have nothing to offer conversationally; they’re immature. I feel like I have a better
shot with someone in his 30s,” she added.
* Kelly Clarkson On The “New Moon” Soundtrack, Or Somebody Else? You Tell Us!
The question has been erupting all over the Web for the last few days, and we’ve
just published an article that gets to the bottom of it: Will Kelly Clarkson be on the
‘New Moon’ soundtrack?
The answer is… well… maybe?
As we all remember from last year’s honest dialogue with Catherine Hardwicke, the
soundtrack is one of the last things the “Twilight” directors are concerning themselves
with. And after the smash sales of last year’s album featuring Paramore, Linkin Park,
Perry Farrell and the rest, “New Moon” director Chris Weitz would be wise to take his
time and make sure he brings the rock.
But that doesn’t mean we can’t try and influence the guy, right Twilighters? So what
do you think? Have you heard Kelly Clarkson’s “Did You?” song? Is her squeaky-clean
“American Idol” image a little too much for the “Twilight” fanbase, or do you guys
consider yourselves fans?
And looking beyond the question, who else do you want on the sequel soundtrack?
Should Chris and Stephenie ask Paramore or one of the other bands to return? Are
there other, undiscovered bands out there that would be perfect for the sound you
imagine would accompany such a visual, stirring book? Or would you simply be happy
with an entire album of Rob Pattinson original compositions? Don’t all shriek “yes” at once.
Personally, I’d love to see the franchise give some love to the “Twilight” bands. Artists
like Mitch Hansen, The Bella Cullen Project and others have really impressed me with
their talents, and I’m sure they’d be thrilled to record something for their favorite
series. And how cool would it be to hear one of their songs during the infamous
birthday party scene? Or the cliff-dive?
If there’s one thing the past has shown us, it’s that the “Twilight” franchise is pretty
good about listening to its fanbase. So, tell us who you want to hear!
This interview was done after one of the recent 100 Monkeys concerts in
Vancouver. Jackson talks about future tour locations for the band, his time in
Greenland working on The Last Airbender, how fans have helped the band book gigs
and the music video for Slow Down.
She’s one of the hottest young stars in Hollywood, but even Dakota Fanning knows
the importance of showing her mom some love on Mother’s Day.
The “I Am Sam” cutie took time out of her busy schedule to treat her mother to a
swanky meal at an Italian restaurant in Vancouver, Canada yesterday (May 10).
Miss Fanning sported a black and grey striped top underneath a black leather jacket with
black leggings and grey suede boots.
Dakota has been in the British Columbian city as of late to film her scenes for the
upcoming “Twilight” sequel “New Moon.”
* Ashley Greene and Nikki Reed: 2009 Hot 100 Maxim
42. Nikki Reed
We’ve wanted this sexy Twilight star to sink her teeth into us since her days on
The O.C. Beware of the next Twilight installment, coming this November.
68. Ashley Greene
In Twilight she played a spunky vampire sister. See her next in Skateland…or being
pursued by psycho Twilight fans.
As I first reported on Twitter on Friday night, cast and crew of New Moon partied
at Blue Water Café – click here to review my tweets. The intrepid Vancity Allie was
outside and delivers a comprehensive report – you can read her blog here.
As I tweeted, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson were planning on heading over
together, but thought better of it as a result of photographers and fans standing
outside, so K arrived with Ashley Greene, and RP arrived alone, although that was
not the case at 3am…
Pop Sugar has the photos that Twi-Hards have been Photo Assuming all
weekend. There are also more photos from PUNKD/DZILLA and AH that you can
access here. Can you hear the screaming? OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!! Are Bella
and Edward notebooking? As Gretchen from Thousand Oaks, CA wrote to me “NO
girl sits with a guy between her legs unless he's been there before.” Heh. Allie says they
spent a lot of time together smoking and I’m told from inside the party that when she
wasn’t with Robert Kristen was super tight with Ashley Greene. Would love to tell you
that KS and RP went back to the hotel and f-cked for hours after hopping in the car
together at the end of the night but the only sure thing is that he was on an early
Saturday flight to LA. It was a quick trip as he returned to Vancouver last night to
resume shooting on New Moon. A couple of photos attached from airport. And
video too.
More pictures of his arrival in Vancouver can be seen here - he was papped straight up
in the face, LA styles. Vancouver is officially Hollywood, see?
He’s no stranger to a crazy travel-intensive schedule, and yesterday (May 10)
Robert Pattinson was spotted arriving back in Vancouver, Canada for more work on
“New Moon.”
The “Twilight” stud looked to be in a good mood as he deplaned, sporting a black
hoodie teamed with a pair of black pants and black sneakers as he passed the paparazzi.
Always the grateful celebrity, Robert stopped to sign autographs for his fans and
pose for pictures before heading off to tend to his professional duties.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Pattinson was spotted out in Beverly Hills with his friend
Andrew Garfield’s girlfriend Shannon Woodward following a test screening for his
upcoming project “Remember Me.”
Enjoy the pictures of Robert Pattinson arriving in Vancouver and flying out of LAX
earlier in the day (May 10).
During the Twilight fan convention in Orlando last weekend, Twilight actor Jackson
Rathbone decided to take advantage of the EyeCon tattoo artist and got some new
ink. Regina tells Pillowbiters that–
Today while Kellan was speaking to his adoring fans during the Q&A Session, Jackson
had the EyeCon Tattoo Artist give him a second tattoo. I heard that it was a heart
(maybe on his back) and perhaps said, ‘I Love Mom.’
* Jackson Rathbone Interview: Kellan Can Bench the Most
In an exclusive interview with RadarOnline.com, Twilight cutie Jackson Rathbone
opened up on everything from his love of Vanilla Ice to which of his co-stars can
bench-press the most weight. And he also shared a super-cute family photo, taken
when he was just a tot!
RadarOnline: Your character in Twilight, Jasper, is so withdrawn and cold. Do you
think fans are a little hesitant to approach you in public? Especially compared with
some of your castmates?
Jackson Rathbone: People rarely recognize me, which is actually pretty sweet. I try
to change my look in every role I take on: clothing, hairstyle, walk, facial expression,
and the way I speak. Sometimes it's subtle and sometimes it's not, but as I am not a
blonde in real life, people often do the double look before approaching me.
RO: You said in a recent interview that all the Cullen guys worked out together in the
hotel gym during filming. So tell us: who can bench press the most?
JR: That would be Kellan [Lutz]. He truly is Emmett.
RO: You live in a house with other members of your band, 100 Monkeys, in Hollywood.
What’s the hardest part about being roomies with two other guys?
JR: The smell.
RO: When can fans expect 100 Monkeys’ new album to drop, and how would you
describe the band’s sound in one word?
JR: Our EP should be coming out in two or three weeks on iTunes, with three singles
from our full length album, and a special surprise if you order the CD directly from us!
Our full length album is set for release in the fall of this year. 100 Monkeys sound is
"onomatopoetic."
RO: What’s the most embarrassing song on your iPod?
JR: There's nothing embarrassing about "Ice, Ice Baby". It's just a great song.
RO: Your next movie is The Last Airbender, which is based on a Japanese animated
series. Have you done any cool stunts for the film?
JR: I've been doing a lot of Kung Fu training and I've had to do a good deal of fighting
in the last few weeks. It's a lot of fun, but my band mates are tired of me trying to
Kung Fu them before and after shows.
RO: You have a tattoo that reads “I’m Lost…” Is there a story behind it?
RO: You’re the only boy among four siblings. Did any particular feminine traits or habits
rub off on you after growing up in a houseful of sisters?
JR: No. I got stuck with all the masculinity. I taught my sisters how to fight.
RO: You’ve said the cast members of Twilight and New Moon are really close, so what’s
one thing about each of your co-stars you think might surprise people?
JR: None of them are vampires in real life! Gasp!
RO: When the cameras aren’t rolling, how do you and the rest of the Twilight crew
blow off steam?
JR: I believe there are usually two or three guitars on set at all times. We all get down
with a little music, though some of our styles and tastes are a bit different. I've been
digging on Spencer Bell's solo album, Feudal, Brutal, and the American Dream, (available
on iTunes), number 13 is my favorite song. (Photo: Jackson Rathbone / WENN)
* How Will Robert Pattinson Be a Powerful Twilight Presence in New Moon?
As filming wraps up in Vancouver for the upcoming Twilight sequel New Moon, Twilight
stars Robert Pattison, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Nikki Reed, Peter Facinelli and
the other Twilight Saga actors will soon be looking ahead to their time in Italy where
the New Moon production comes to a close. After the first Twilight film, based on the
popular Stephenie Meyer series of novels, New Moon opens up the characters even
more as they evolve into more diverse and emotionally concrete figures in the Twilight
Saga. How each handles their characters for a second time, namely Robert Pattinson, is
a powerful question surrounding the anticipation for New Moon.
For anyone not wanting to read overall plot and character points of the sequel, there
are a few along the way. It’s impossible to get underneath Edward Cullen in New Moon
so don’t say we didn’t warn you.
The nature of New Moon, however, sets a different tone than Twilight with its darker
and more painful layers while an element of despair runs throughout the story. Edward
Cullen, Bella Swan and Jacob Black each battle their own inner turmoil as they struggle
with adolescence, love, the changes within themselves, and the dynamics of how they
fit into the Twilight world with and without each other. Given how New Moon takes
shape, the once upfront and visible Robert Pattinson in Twilight steps into the shadows
for the sequel to make way for Taylor Lautner whose Jacob Black character becomes
the major visible male presence.
Since the announcement and eventual 2008 release of Twilight, Robert Pattinson has
quickly become one of the hottest young stars in Hollywood after his romantically
imprinting portrayal of Edward Cullen, the new anti-hero of the cult fantasy world.
Pattinson has proven to be one of the major, driving factors behind the success of the
first Twilight film, as fans not only flocked to theatres to see how well Robert was able
to inhabit Edward Cullen but also sparking near riots at some locations where Pattinson
appeared for Twilight signings. But since Robert Pattinson and Edward Cullen are less
visible in New Moon, how will the new Hollywood heartthrob keep the presence of
Edward Cullen alive with less screen time?
Although the Edward Cullen character is less of an observable force, existing more within
the conflict of New Moon, the absence of Cullen and Pattinson are integral to the New
Moon storyline and the direction of Kristen Stewart’s Bella Swan But while Jacob Black
and Taylor Lautner step into the New Moon spotlight for a good portion of the film,
Pattinson still has to bring to life one of the most popular literary characters of the past
decade, and do it in less time than Twilight.
Edward Cullen will be a strong spirit in New Moon, but from an acting standpoint, Robert
Pattinson will need to up the Twilight ante to make as much of an impression on New
Moon as he did in Twilight. Although the events of New Moon have already been set in
harmony with the novel, it’s not like Robert Pattinson can simply mail in his performance,
especially since the Twilight Saga is – safe to say - twice as popular as it was before the
first film. In leaving his imprint on New Moon, how will Pattinson make the most of his
time for the sake of the character and the set-up to the third Twilight film, Eclipse?
New Dramatic Diversity
Featuring elements of the many effective literary love stories, Twilight characters Bella
Swan and Edward Cullen were (and are) drawn together by an inexplicable pull as much
as they were torn apart by their physical natures.
[spoilers]
In the sequel, Edward leaves Bella for her own safety, which sparks deep, emotional
turmoil and pain in both characters but also opens up a new form of conflict. Although
Jacob makes a physical transformation in New Moon, Edward is not far behind with a
change of his own that’s directly related to Bella. New Moon becomes a turning point
for Edward in his view of Bella. Pattinson has already proved to the world that he can
play the brooding vampire but he will need to focus on expressing another side of the
character in Edward’s distress. Interestingly, given how Pattinson is still in the early stages
of his career, the emotional complexities within Edward in New Moon will require more
of the actor than in previous roles he’s taken on in terms of dramatic diversity.
Having recently dealt with the emotional awkwardness of the relationship between
creative legends Salvador Dali and Frederico Garcia Lorca in Little Ashes, a story that sees
Pattinson confront the conflict of an alleged affair between the two painters, Robert
Pattinson has been honing his dramatic sensibilities beyond Twilight. Given how Edward
Cullen is, and has become a new extension of Robert Pattinson’s identity, along with a
better ease with the character for a second film, Pattinson should be able to maximize his
time in New Moon to fullest potential in each scene he steps into thanks to Little Ashes.
Finding the Twilight Balance
As the New Moon storyline progresses, Edward Cullen’s dramatic turn will no doubt set
hearts on fire, but Pattinson must be careful not to overplay his Twilight hand too much
so his presence doesn’t overwhelm the scenes at the same time. But that will also be a
test for first time Twilight Saga director Chris Weitz to make the most of the actor’s
talents in a less is more approach.
The Evolution of Edward and Robert
New Moon showcases the delicate balance between Edward Cullen and the ancient
Volturi Vampire Clan. [spoilers] Their presence and the consequences that they bring
forth to Edward and Bella set up the beginning of the next novel, Eclipse. Love and life
are tested in New Moon so it’s up to Robert Pattison and his second interpretation of
Edward Cullen to illustrate the actions of an immortalized hero with a new sense of
self-realization in regard to how he feels about Bella Swan. Again, given how Robert
Pattinson is at the early stages of his career, fans will also get to see the evolution of
Edward Cullen along with Robert Pattinson in “near” real time as he develops as an actor.
In many ways the question of Robert Pattinson keeping the presence of Edward alive
in New Moon is directly related to Pattinson keeping alive the presence of himself, the
actor, to venture into new territory and accept the challenges of Edward. There’s no
question that the New Moon production is under an enormous amount of pressure to
produce an even more visually stunning and fan-connecting translation of its literary
counterpart than Twilight. That pressure also trickles down to the actors and everyone
contributing to make New Moon.
Twilight Saga Success: Edward Cullen vs Robert Pattinson
It’s clear that Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner will carry more of the visible Twilight
load in New Moon than Pattinson, which, at first glance, looks to be more of a pressure
filled dynamic. However, the fact that Robert Pattinson has to make good on Edward
with less time may be just as much weight as the others combined. On the flip side,
Pattinson may be completely at ease with what’s expected of him in New Moon given
the fact that he’s spent so much time inside the Twilight world and has the source
material to refer back to at any given time. Still, it’s safe to say that the Robert Pattinson
prior to the release of Twilight isn’t quite the same Robert Pattinson now on the set of
New Moon. No matter how small or large, the success of the Twilight Saga has had some
type of affect. How Twilight has changed him, and how any change will affect his
embodiment of Edward for a second time is an intriguing thought.
New Moon is under a tighter shooting schedule with a new director. Given the success
of Twilight, there’s more pressure to deliver the New Moon goods. Regardless of the
final cut of the film, there is no doubt that fans of the Twilight saga, especially those of
Robert Pattinson, will fall in love with Edward and the actor for a second time. How will
Robert Pattinson be a powerful presence in New Moon? The real answer is hidden deep
inside Pattinson himself. For the fans, waiting to see how Robert Pattinson embodies
Edward Cullen for the sequel is the small price to pay for true love.
