Charley and Gerry on the sofa
Inspired Thinking
Day 34, 04:30
Gerry teaches Charley a lesson...
Often, moments of inspiration can come at the most inappropriate times - in the middle of the night, for example. Though what inspired Gerry to lecture Charley on the rudiments of ancient British history is anybody's guess...
"Have you ever heard of Stonehenge - the circle of stones?" he asked Charley, who looked at him as though he had just asked her to explain quantum mechanics. "Er, no," she said.
"It's one of the most famous things in Britain," Gerry continued, clearly surprised at Charley's lack of knowledge of stone circles.
"What's that, 17 centuries ago or what?" asked Charley somewhat confusingly.
"Stonehenge was built by the Celts who lived on this island before the Romans," Gerry told Charley. "Then came the Romans and after the Romans came the Saxons."
"And then came the Greeks?" asked Charley earnestly.
"No, the Greeks never came," answered Gerry, trying not to laugh. "I seem to know more about your country's history than you do and I'm a foreigner."
There followed a long conversation about genus and species and how moths are not birds.
"One day," said Gerry, "I'll explain to you about Darwin and the theory of evolution."
Whoa there Gerry...
How can someone not heard of Stonehenge?
