The Strangers
Anyone see this movie? I saw it last weekend and let me tell you... I'm the type of person who generally laughs at horror movies because I think they're completely ridiculous, especially if they're really gory. But The Strangers is genuinely creepy as fuck. I think the reason it works so well is because it's not gory at all... so it never crosses that line into super cheesy.

For those who don't know what it's about: a couple is staying at their country house after a friend's wedding when there's a knock on the door (at 4AM) and a girl asks if Tamara is there. After that, things get all super creepy and 3 people in masks break into the home and terrorize the couple. For most of the movie, you see the strangers in masks but the main characters don't. There's one scene where Liv Tyler's character is in the kitchen getting a drink of water and you see a guy with a bag on his head standing in the doorway behind her, but she never sees him. It's things like that that make this movie completely terrifying. As far as horror movies go, it's one of the best I've seen in years.

Just don't see it if you're spending the night alone.

You know it all really happened, right? This was based on something that happened in the 70s in California. Slightly different facts, there was no wedding, there were more people in the house.. but it really did happen.

It wasn't that bad of a movie, but it was pretty much ruined for me because the theatre was filled with younger girls who screamed at every jumpy moment in the movie.

It was loosely based on one of the murders commited by members of Charles Manson's "family" in the 70's from my understanding. I havn't seen this one yet but it sound cool. The way it was described above makes it sound like it has a little classic Halloween vibe to it.

According to the story you posted above it sound's like it could have been based on that particular crime aswell, but from what I've read and been told it was based on one of the Manson murders but I could be wrong. I haven't seen the movie yet either.

I believe they were trying to set the story for the movie saying it took place in 2005. But it was really based on the Cabin 28 murders. Check the message board on the website I posted.
