EDIT: If you have the latest version of mIRC installed, you can just click
this link right here to connect.
Alright, this isn't too hard folks, try to follow along.
1. Download the program called mIRC. You can get that by going to this link:
http://www.mirc.co.uk/get.html
2. Install it to wherever, it doesn't matter. At the end of the install, one of the options will be "Launch mIRC", you're gonna wanna check that.
3. When it first runs, you'll see a picture of a freaky guy. That's the guy who made it. You can go ahead and close that out.
4. You'll then be presented with a window that looks like the following:
Full Name: Just put whatever you want here. Doesn't really matter.
E-mail: Use a fake one if you want, again it doesn't matter.
Nickname: What you want your nickname to be on IRC.
Alternative: This is your backup nickname, in case someone is already using the Nickname you want.
Don't worry about the IRC server for now (but if you really want to change it from the default, drop down the box that says "Random US DALnet server" and choose "Random US Efnet server". Or UK server. Whatever, doesn't matter).
2. You'll be at a screen with a blank box. You're gonna wanna type /server irc.limelight.us in it, then press enter:
3. It'll spew all this text on the screen talking about the server and whatnot, don't worry about it. You can read it if you want, but don't get too over your head. In the next part, you're going to want to type "/join #avrilbandaids" in the same text box that you typed "/server irc.limelight.us" in:
For the record, that's also how you join channels. Let's say you wanted to join the avril lavigne channel where Woozle runs his server, you'd type "/join #avrillavigne". You can be in as many channels as you want at once.
4. When you're in the channel, you'll get a window similar to the following. You can type text in the box along the bottom, and when you hit enter, it will be sent to the channel:
You can arrange the windows by clicking on the "Window" menu, and then choosing "Tile" or "Cascade". To exit a channel, you simple close it's window.
5. The text will show up in the channel with your name next to it. You can do emotes by typing "/me jumps around", which would show up as "* Bob jumps around", or whatever your nickname is.
That's just a basic mIRC hat. There are manuals with commands and more that you can do in the help file for mIRC (by clicking help > contents), or by checking
http://www.mirc.co.uk/
Hope to see you there soon! =)
