Glasgow wins race for 2014 Games
There were celebrations at events across Glasgow

Glasgow wins
Glasgow has been chosen to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games. There were celebrations in the Scottish city as the decision of the 71 voting nations was announced in Sri Lanka, with Glasgow winning by 47 votes to 24.
The city had been competing against Nigerian capital Abuja for the right to host the games.
Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond said: "We will make these games the greatest sporting event our country has ever seen."
He added: "They will be our chance to show the whole world the very best of Scotland."
The announcement was greeted with delight by hundreds of people who had gathered in Glasgow's George Square to hear the result.
Motorists also joined in the celebrations by blaring their horns.
About 2,000 children had gathered for the announcement at Tollcross Leisure Centre in the east end of the city, which will host the swimming events.
In the pool, more than 20 young swimmers who will now be going for gold jumped and splashed with delight when the result came through.
In the grandstand, hundreds of people waved Glasgow 2014 flags and cheered.
Youngsters in Glasgow were delighted at the victory
Councillor George Ryan, executive member for development and regeneraton, said: "This is absolutely superb, Glasgow will flourish with this announcement today.
"Two-and-a-half years of hard work put into the bid and we've now delivered."
Former Labour First Minister Jack McConnell, whose administration launched the Glasgow bid, said: "This is fantastic news for Glasgow and for Scotland.
"I hope young Scots are inspired by the excitement the games will bring, and the Commonwealth enjoys the best ever games in 2014."
In a message, the Queen said: "I send my warm congratulations to everyone involved in Glasgow's successful bid to hold the 2014 Commonwealth Games - the third time that a Scottish city has been chosen as a venue for the games.
"My good wishes go to you all and to the people of Glasgow as you celebrate this impressive achievement."
Alex Salmond and council leader Steven Purcell cheer the result
Julia Bracewell OBE, chairwoman of Sportscotland, said it was "fantastic news".
"Hosting such a high profile event will undoubtedly help to drive sport forward at all levels, increasing participation and improving performance.
"It will provide Scottish athletes with the advantage of competing and being supported on home soil.
"And as importantly, it will give coaches, officials and volunteers the experience of a lifetime."
It has been estimated that it will cost the city £288m to stage the sporting event, with most of the funding coming from the Scottish Government.

Injured Rooney out for four weeks
Rooney's injury is a devastating blow for Man Utd and England
Manchester United's Wayne Rooney is out for up to four weeks after sustaining an ankle injury in training. The problem also means he misses England's potentially decisive Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia at Wembley on 21 November.
In-form Rooney, 22, has just been named Premier League player of the month for October after scoring seven goals in his last seven United games.
England coach Steve McClaren said: "It's hugely disappointing."
He added: "Given the form he has been in and the contribution he has made to England over the last two games means it is a blow.
"But we have to deal with it, like we have dealt with situations like these before.
"It is an opportunity for someone else to come and do a job."
McClaren had just named Rooney in his squad for the friendly against Austria on Friday and the qualifier against Croatia at Wembley on 21 November.
It is the second major injury problem Rooney has suffered this season after missing five matches with a broken foot, sustained on the opening day of the campaign against Reading.
He will miss league games against Blackburn, Bolton and Fulham, and possibly Derby on 8 December, as well as United's next Champions League match against Sporting Lisbon.
But if the initial prognosis of four weeks is correct, Rooney should be available again for the final Champions League group match against Roma on 12 December and a key Premier League match at Liverpool on 16 December.

Benayoun out of key Russia clash
Benayoun has scored 13 goals in 53 games for Israel
Yossi Benayoun will miss Israel's Euro 2008 qualifier with Russia on 17 November, dealing England's hopes of reaching the finals a major blow. England need Israel to at least draw in Tel Aviv if they are to stand a chance of finishing second in Group E and Benayoun is the Israelis' key player.
The midfielder was injured in Liverpool's 2-0 win over Fulham.
And he has been ruled out for three weeks after a scan on Sunday revealed an adductor tear.
Benayoun, who had cancelled his flight to join up with his international team-mates, was one of only two players in Israel's squad to play in the Premier League. The other is Chelsea defender Tal Ben Haim.
The 27-year-old Liverpool star has an impressive international goalscoring record, having scored 13 goals in 53 games.
If England fail to qualify for the finals it will be the first time they have missed out on a major tournament since the 1994 World Cup.
