I thought we could use a thread to talk about our favorite musicals! Cuz, yannno, I'm kind of a geek for this stuff.
Ok, so I personally loooove broadway music. Love it. I am obsessed with it. Like, right now, I can't stop listening to the soundtrack for rent. Especially the songs from the second part. The songs from the first part annoy me. :\
I alse looove the song Make Them Hear You. We sang it for chorus and I fell in love with it.
And I really, really want to see Wicked. It's coming here this year, and I am going to BEG my mom to take me. I've heard it's amazing. The songs from it are really good. I would love to go.
So yeah. Discuss your favorite musicals/broadway songs/etc.

Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein
There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.
Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.
Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.
And this isn't Broadway, and it's not really musical music because it's all Beatles covers, but I love Across the Universe.

Seeing Rent live > listening to the soundtrack TIMES LIKE A MILLION.
I went about a year and a half ago, and it's coming back in March and I want to go again.
And I want to go see it in New York ("in its natural habitat" as my friend said because she's awesome).
Sweeney Todd also has some awesome music in it. I want to see that play too.

The boybands have won, and all the copyists and the tribute bands and the TV talent show producers have won, if we allow our culture to be shaped by mimicry, whether from lack of ideas or from exaggerated respect. You should never try to freeze culture. What you can do is recycle that culture. Take your older brother's hand-me-down jacket and re-style it. Re-fashion it to the point where it becomes your own. But don't just regurgitate creative history, or hold art and music and literature as fixed, untouchable, and kept under glass. The people who try to 'guard' any particular form of music are, like the copyists and manufactured bands, doing it the worst disservice, because the only thing you can do to music that will damage it is not change it, not make it your own. Because then it dies, then it's over, then it's done, and the boybands have won.
And in a bizarre twist of irony, we go now to a boyband blend...
I've only seen one so far but I'd love to go see more. I went to go see Phantom of the Opera when I was in 7th grade. There's a lot more I want to go see...
I am obsessed with Wicked. I went crazy with it for awhile. I read the book, and I tried extremely hard to get tickets the last time it came here when Kristen Chenoweth and Idina Menzel were in it ( I reallllllly wanted to see them) but I couldn't. But the songs are amazing. Especially " No One Mourns the Wicked" and "Defying Gravity."
And last year I went through my Rent phase, where all I listened to was Rent songs and I watched the movie constantly. I still love it
