lol yeah I remember us discussing this very thing and I never thought it would happen. I was telling you that I'd never be going to the concert or anything.

And also, Cone is like my man. He set this all up. I'm still writing a review cause i want to pimp it out, but i was gonna write a separate sum review of the show anyways and then an avril one for the meeting and stuff. Sorry for taking so long lol.

The Sum 41 concert last night was amazing! Words can’t explain how I felt, because I lost my voice, so typing will have to do for now…

I live right outside of Detroit, where Sum 41 played the day before. I talked to Sharifa, and we definitely wanted to go to the show on Avril’s birthday. Katie (ktg205) was also going to be there with two of her friends. I’d been preparing for this concert since the summer, so I was really excited when the day finally came. My dad dropped me off at The Intersection in Grand Rapids. I met Katie and two of her friends there. Sharifa was running late, so I told her I’d meet up with her when she got there.

I hung out with Katie and company for the three opening bands. First Schoolyard Heroes performed. I was actually quite impressed with them. If I could “Sum” it up, they’re wannabe Paramore with the looks of Amy Lee and the sound of Flyleaf. The lead singer girl did tons of things with the microphone and was really dramatic. It was quite funny. After that, Monty Are I performed. I had never heard of them either, but it was a great experience to hear new bands. They were alright. None of their songs were that catchy, but I definitely enjoyed it. Finally, Amber Pacific came out. I like them, so that was a treat for me. They played a great set. During the opening bands, these girls right next to us got in a fight and were kicked out. It was great fun! Right as Amber Pacific was ending, Sharifa called and said she’d arrived, so I said bye to Katie and that I’d meet up with her after the show so I could go hang out with Sharifa.

After catching up with Sharifa, we went to watch the guys perform. I didn’t mind not being 5 feet away from the stage anymore. The show was so intimate and close up that it didn’t matter where you were in the venue. Plus, I’m very uncoordinated while jumping, so I definitely need my space. Once they dimmed the lights and the show began, I was in my own world.

As I’m sure you know, they opened with Underclass Hero, and I was bouncing off the walls. Sharifa’s the funniest concert buddy, cause I was jumping up and down and singing the entire time and she was just chillin right next to me. So funny! I found it quite weird that nobody around me knew the lyrics to their songs, really. Even to their old ones. Nonetheless, I felt in the right place.

Some of the best moments of the show were when Deryck would tell everybody to say stuff like, “Fuck you, Deryck!” and “Shut the fuck up, Deryck!” and “You’re an asshole, Deryck!” all while giving him the middle finger. That’s classic Deryck right there. It makes me laugh how different he is on stage than in real life. He’s in his own world on stage, and I’ve really come to appreciate how much he loves it. Cone is in his own world as well…a very quiet world. Hell, Steve and Tom are too!

They might have played Confusion and Frustration in Modern Times and No Brains, but I can’t remember. At times during the show, me and Sharifa moved about the venue looking for Avril, so I was absent-minded for a few songs.

It was especially funny when they were performing March of the Dogs. The whole concert, Sharifa and I were waiting for Avril to come out on stage or something special, but it hadn’t happened yet. And then he gets to March of the Dogs and says “This is a song for someone you all know and love” and Sharifa and I look at each other with the expression that says “It can’t be Avril…nobody here likes her”. I was assuming it was going to be “With Me” dedicated to Avril for her birthday, but of course it was for the president.

The show was amazing, I must say. It’s one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. I might be thinking it’s a great concert just because of what happened afterwards. I’m going to make another thread about the Avril part, cause that’s separate from the show. You guys will like how involved the guys were with it. It was amazing. Cone is the man.

I'm really not a huge fan of "My Direction". They could easily play "No Brains" in its place.
