I saw her open for Matchbox Twenty. She was amazing. Her voice is perfect.

Because she's opening for them. And it's always nice to hear how great Alanis was when they didn't expect it or whatever.

I can see why you would think she's a lesbian, but she is not.

Head over feet for Alanis

At 33, Alanis Morissette is about to receive her first lifetime achievement award.
The Ottawa-born rock superstar will be inducted into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame this week, and at the same time will receive a separate award for lifetime achievement.
Because of her touring schedule, Alanis won't make it to tonight's dinner in Toronto (where this year's other inductees, Nettwerk boss Terry McBride and TV producer John Brunton, are being feted, and Gordon Lightfoot will perform). She'll be in Salt Lake City opening for Matchbox Twenty. Instead, she will get her accolades during the Canadian Radio Music Awards luncheon on Friday, and rejoin the m20 tour in Seattle the next day.
Jetlag and all, it's an honour to be recognized. And no one could be more proud than her parents, Alan and Georgia Morissette. In a recent interview with Alan, the 60-year-old former school principal got us thinking about Alanis as a career artist. Though her 1995 disc, Jagged Little Pill, made a huge impact on the musical landscape, she had been writing songs for years before, and has continued ever since.
"People have to know that this has been a 23-year career," Morissette says, noting that his daughter recorded her first song at age 10, and had a publishing deal by 14. "It started 23 years ago through the recognition of her talent and her passion to do it. That's all she wanted to do."
During the dance-pop phase of her teens, Alan believes that Alanis was ahead of her time, foreshadowing the emergence of such artists as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. And when Alanis found her "rock" voice, her quirky phrasing and a vocal style involving hiccups and yodels inspired a generation of female singers.
Still, Alan Morissette, who now runs a consulting business offering career-development advice to artists and their parents, shudders to think of what could have happened. "There are times when I think of the Britney Spears situation," he says, "and I always congratulate Alanis. It has nothing to do with us. It's all about what she decided to buy into and didn't buy into."
That's why the racy lyrics of You Oughta Know didn't rattle him for long. He recognized them as part of her expression. Today, he and Georgia are still among the first people to hear any new project. They've already listened to Alanis' forthcoming disc, Flavors of Entanglement, and Alan is confident he can sum it up in one word: "Pithy." Before Alanis steps into that phase of her career, let's reflect on what's happened so far.
Here's an A to Z guide:
Awards In 1992, Alanis took home the Juno Award for most promising female vocalist.
"I've dreamed about this since I was three,'' she told the Ottawa Citizen at the time.
‘'I always used to joke about it when I was little. Now I won one and it's amazing.''
Of course, she went on to add 11 more Junos and seven Grammys to her collection.
Backlash Partly because of her two early dance-pop albums, some observers greeted her emergence as a rock star with skepticism, questioning whether she was a true artist or a label-engineered creation. By the end of the '90s, the answer was obvious.
Confessions Alanis' repertoire is filled with songs that read like diary jottings, addressing issues of self-esteem, parental expectations, spirituality, toxic relationships and the quest for self-acceptance. Her greatest talent may be that she is able to shoehorn them into a melody.
Mr. Duplicity Speculation has all but died down as to the identity of the older man who inspired the rage of her breakthrough single, You Oughta Know. Although she has apparently referred to him in later songs, we are none the wiser.
Her lips are sealed.
Entanglement Alanis is avoiding the emotional sort these days, following the breakup of her engagement to actor Ryan Reynolds. "I do need a breather from the flavours of entanglement," she sings in the new song, Moratorium. "I declare a full time out from all this commitment."
The song is expected on her new disc, Flavors of Entanglement, tentatively due for release May 20.
Fate Stay With Me Amazingly, a song that Alanis wrote at age nine and recorded at 10 (with the help of family friend, Lindsay Morgan) stands up as a crisp, punchy track, as you will hear when the Ottawa band Amos the Transparent tackles it during a CBC Radio tribute to Alanis, to be broadcast March 6.
Goddess tour Exhausted by the craziness sparked by an out-of-the-blue hit album, Jagged Little Pill, and nearly two years of touring, Alanis needed a breather.
She assembled a group of women for a soul-searching journey to India. The goddess tour, as they called it, inspired her follow-up album, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, and the song, Thank U.
History With more than 30 million copies sold worldwide, Morissette's 1995 Jagged Little Pill is considered the bestselling debut album in history.
It generated six hit singles.
Ironic One of the biggest of those hits was Ironic, which inspired much debate about the proper use of the word.
Is it ironic to have rain on your wedding day?
A free ride when you've already paid?
Not really. But maybe that's the irony.
Lovely lady lumps Last year's reworked version of the Black Eyed Peas' song, My Humps, and the hilarious video that went with it, provided further proof of Alanis' ability to make us laugh. Hey, don't forget, this is the girl who got slimed when she starred in You Can't Do That on Television.
MCA Publishing Alanis was 14 when she impressed music-industry executive John Alexander with her songwriting drive. In a rare move, he signed her to a deal with MCA Publishing. The record deals came and went, but the publishing deal remained.
Olivia Newton John The Morissettes were on vacation in Europe when little Alanis saw the movie Grease for the first time. Back at the camper, she pretended she was Newton John and began to sing songs from the movie. "This is when we saw her transition from a young, frilly little girl to a rock star," recalls her father. "She was four."
Production Different producers helped Morissette develop her craft at each stage of her career, starting with Morgan. Ottawa musician Leslie Howe entered the picture for her teen-pop phase, but it was Glen Ballard who was responsible for the Jagged breakthrough. While she has produced much of her own material in the years since, the new disc finds her working with Guy Sigsworth (Bjork, Madonna).
Q Magazine The influential British music magazine featured Alanis on the cover in 1996, and later declared Jagged Little Pill one of the top 90 albums of the '90s.
Racetrack A keen rookie motorcyclist, Alanis completed a bike-safety course at California's Buttonwillow Raceway last May. There's a scan of the certificate on her website, along with a photo of her Ducati.
Undoubtedly "Un" is her favourite
prefix. Song titles include Uninvited, Unsent, Underneath, So Unsexy and Unprodigal Daughter, which also makes use of the words unoppressed, unfettered and unencumbered.
Voice of a generation Her songs speak volumes about relationships, good and bad, while her success inspired a new crop of female singer-songwriters to take up the torch of self-expression, even if what they had to say wasn't always pretty. Amy Lee, Avril Lavigne, Emily Haines, Sarah Slean and Lindsay Ferguson are among the artists who found their voice in the post-Alanis era.
Wunderkind The first new song from Alanis in a couple of years. The song turned up on the Chronicles of Narnia soundtrack, was nominated for a 2006 Golden Globe and she performed it on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
XExile in America The title of the current tour with matchbox twenty. Technically, the rock superstar is opening for the grunge-lite hitmakers, but she prefers to think of it as a low-pressure way to road-test the new material. "It's a way to promote a record while having the cushioned support of touring with an established band," she told the Windsor Star last month. The tour passed through Toronto last week; it stops in Vancouver on March 9.
Yankovic You know an artist has become an integral part of the pop-culture lexicon when they get parodied by Weird Al.
For Morissette, the moment of glory came in 1996 when a snippet of You Oughta Know was included in his Alternative Polka, a track from his Bad Hair Day disc.
Zillionaire When she wrote it, few around her could have guessed the self-deprecating lines in Right Through You ("Now that I'm Miss Thing/now that I'm a zillionaire") would ring with such truth. For a couple of years, she was the hottest thing on the planet. Financially, she was set for life.

That still doesn't make her a lesbian. And seriously I'm a member of AlanisMorissette.info ::
That's the largest board of her out there. They get info even before she knows something.
And they had a discussion about her sexuality. And no so called girlfriends came up. Maybe before the Jagged Little Pill era. But she did NOT have a serious open relationship with a girl over the past 13 years. I'm just saying. She did say she was open minded. But didn't really feel natural with a girl.

I'm gonna try and find that topic.

I didnt mean she is a lesbian , as in 100 % only into women , but she has had girlfriends or just relashanships with women in the late 90 and early 00`s she has talked about it in the past and describes her sexuality as not being hetrosexual or homosexual , she doesn`t label it .

any way can`t wait for her new album , I am hoping its gona be good , there needs to be some good female artists around , Avril might be re-inspired , shee needs it
