Alanis is the artist i've connected most with, in terms of her lyrics. So many songs, like Doth I Protest Too Much, Excuses, So Unsexy, That I Would Be Good, One, Your Congratulations etc - one of those artists that you seriously consider whether they've been spying on you, and writing the songs about you, lol.
I hope she actually des write that book, she's mentioned it over the years but never got around to doing it.

"why do i fear that the quieter i am the less you will listen"
"why do i care whether you like me or not"
"why's it so hard for me to be angry"
"why is it such work to stay conscious and so easy to get stuck and not the other way around"
"why is it so hard to be objective about myself"
"why do i feel cellularly alone"
"am supposed to live in this crazy city"
"ii do, i say im fine when its obvious i am not"
"why's it so hard to tell what i want?why cant you jsut read my mind?"
"why cannot i live in the moment?"
yeh sometimes it feels like alanis is either spying on me or we're like...the same person,lol.seirously. its amazing.
i really hope she releases that book...

Aw yeah, she just has that ability to write a song with so many lines that you connect with.
'I wouldn't have compromised as much
So much of myself
For fear of you hating me
And I would have sung so loudly
It would have cracked myself
And I became self-concious
Of anything exuberant
I wouldn't have sold myself short
I wouldn't have kept my eyes glued to the ground
If I had have known my invisibility
Would not make a difference
I would have run around screaming proudly
At the top of my voice
I wouldn't have said
It was in-fact luck
I'm talking idealism here
And I would not have been so
Self-deprecating
And I wouldn't have cowered
For fear of having my eyes scratched out
I wouldn't have cut my comfort off
I wouldn't have feigned needleesness
And I would not have discredited
Every one of their compliments
It was YOUR approval I wanted
Your Congratulations'
She just writes PERFECTION.

I love These R The Thoughts (Can blindly continued fear-induced regurgitated life-denying tradition be overcome?) and Your Congratulations too... great songs
I wish I could have gone to a JLPA show... or any of her shows for that matter, she came to Panama in 2003 and I missed her... hope she comes again soon, though.
As for So-Called Chaos, I didn't find it a let down, maybe too short, but well, 8 Easy Steps, Excuses, Doth I Protest Too Much and (especially!)Spineless are such amazing songs that I liked right away and continue to grew on me that I completely forgot about that.

Yeah, I completely agree with you. A lot of people diss So Called Chaos, sayin it's her worst album, but I ADORE Doth I Protest Too Much, it's oe of my favourite songs ever! Again, it fits with that self-depreiciation theme in your congratulations, which crops up in other songs such as So Unsexy, That I Would Be Good and Perfect.
I don't think any song has ever had such an effect on me on first listening tat 8 Easy Steps either. I had some sort of muscle-spasm, my body was moving uncontrollably, it was incredible! And 'Excuses' pretty much defines me as a person, lol.

Nice to see people who don't think it's degrading to listen to Avril, and also people who don't think it's too boring to listen to Alanis, if you get what I mean. You get a lot of Alanis fans slagging Avril off, so it's cool to see people appreciating both artists.
And babbery, I love your sig, those pics are stunning.
Yeah, 'This Grudge' live is heart-breaking. I prefer versions where it's just her and the piano, sounds so much more intimate. The studio recording is a bit messy with the drums and acoustic guitar and other various sounds. Gets a bit clogged up. The just piano version is much nicer

I decided against bumping this when she broke up with Ryan, or when she covered My Humps or Guerrilla Radio, but now is the time...
NEW ALANIS SONG!!!!!!!!!
Not As We
I think it deals with breaking up with Ryan, and it's very gorgeous. Go listen to it. It is live.
She's been working on a new album for several months now, I hope we get it this year. And I would expect that book to be delayed, so much has been going on.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! New song, NEW song!!
"Underneath"
YouSendIt - Send large files - transfer delivery - FTP Replacement
The mp3 is ripped from the video posted below, it's nice quality.
I got this from Alanismorrissette.info, it looks that this will be the first single from her upcoming record! The song is produced by Guy Sigsworth, yes Alanis is trying something 'new'. It fits her completely though.
I'm SO exited, I adore Alanis, she's a Goddess.
Here's the video someone captured at The Elevate Film Festival, it came as a total surprise to everyone!
YouTube - Alanis Morissette - Underneath
The video is kinda boring, but I love her little wink at the end.
*edit* The video was made in 48 hours, so that might explain it being kinda boring.
It's still rumored if it's the first single, or not.
