While I can understand your sentiments it's really not as clear cut as that..
Nobody who drinks their first drink says ' I think I'll become an alcoholic ' it starts off innocently then over time starts to control you, before you realise it has hold over you then usually you refuse to admit it..
Sadly it replaces the things that mean the most to you but given luck, help or a massive shock it can be beaten..
I've never done drugs but would imagine it goes along the same route..
