Katy Perry Explains Her Link To Kelly Clarkson's New Album
Perry co-wrote a pair of tracks on the 'American Idol' champ's new LP.
We've already spoken to Katy Perry about her relationships with Rihanna, Josh Groban and Zooey Deschanel, but what we haven't discussed is her link to Kelly Clarkson. Perry co-wrote two songs on Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted album: her new single "I Do Not Hook Up" and "Long Shot."
Perry wrote "Hook Up" with new "American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi and producer Greg Wells and "Long Shot" with noted songwriter/producer Glen Ballard and Relient-K frontman Matt Thiessen. So how did a pair of her songs end up on Clarkson's album?
"Kara and I and one of my producers, Greg Wells — when I was writing for this record that took five years and [encompassed] all these songs — we got together in a studio and we wrote a song for my record called 'I Do Not Hook Up,' but it didn't make it on my record," Perry said. "Just because there were so many different songs and there were only 12 slots allotted for the record, so ... it was kind of one of those songs that was just, like, still there. And Kelly Clarkson heard it. I guess she liked it, and she recorded it — and another song too."
So does Perry harbor any hard feelings toward Clarkson for snatching the songs away from her? Not exactly. Seems things have worked out pretty well for all parties involved.
"I'm so excited," Perry laughed, pumping her fist. "House in Malibu! Thank you, Kelly!"
Katy Perry Gets Collared (And Capri-Pantsed) By Saudi Arabia's Fashion-Morality Police
On the left, the cover of the ever-annoying Katy Perry's One Of The Boys as signed off on by the EMI art department. On the right, the cover of a copy of One Of The Boys that blogger Susie Of Arabia bought at a shop in Saudi Arabia for her kid*. You may notice a difference between the two—although you may not notice, given the fact that you're looking at the two covers on a screen, that one is colored in with marker. It's the work of Saudi Arabia's Committee For Protection Of Virtue and Prevention Of Vice, which keeps sexism alive and well makes sure Saudi citizens adhere to Islamic guidelines regarding dress, morality, and prayer. The committee even has police, who are apparently armed with felt-tip pens for any trips they might make to the record store.
Susie explains the doctoring, which also happened to other photos within:
Now those of you who have purchased CDs know how much trouble it is to take that plastic wrap off. And then to remove the front insert and especially removing the back insert from the CD case without breaking the plastic case can be tricky. So what it all boils down to is that the Saudi government is actually paying religious police members of the Committee for the Protection of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (CVPVP) to remove the plastic wrap from these CDs, open up the CD cases, remove the front and back inserts, and carefully and painstakingly color in with a marker any photos baring exposed female flesh that is deemed objectionable. Hence, while the general public is protected from such vulgarity, the CVPVP members get to view photos with women's flesh abounding and then get to stroke on colored markers over the exposed women's skin. I wonder what they are thinking or how they feel as they stroke those markers onto the smooth female flesh in the photos. I wonder if it makes them feel good that they are shielding young teenage boys from such crude displays of the nubile female form.
I'm going to leave that question up to Susie, since she knows a lot more about the ins and outs of the committee. What I'm really curious about is the whole notion of whether or not the version of Boys that made it to shelves over in Saudi Arabia is lyrically censored, since I would imagine that barbs like "you PMS like a bitch, I should know" would make the morality cut—never mind that whole fake-lesbian thing. Is it a sign that Perry's music isn't as "sexy" as she would like, or is it just harder to sell CDs that have bits scratched out?

After the pair were snapped together backstage after Katy had just performed, rumors started that the 'Hot N Cold' singer was now dating the UK indie star.
When asked by Blender if there was any truth in the relationship, Perry responded: "Oh God, f***, man, just because we get our picture taken because he comes to my show? Please, I'll call that one out right now."
"I mean who's trying to get extra press here? Not me."
Both Katy and Pritchard are now single, following their split from Travis McCoy and Mischa Barton respectively.

Alphabeat updated fans on their blog at MySpace on Thursday (April 16), talking about why they decided to pull out of a slot on the Katy Perry U.S. tour. The Danish pop group tell readers:
Recently, we’ve received messages and comments from US fans who either are looking forward seeing us tour with Katy Perry or was disappointed in not seeing us even though our name was on the poster when they bought the ticket …
We’re super sorry that you guys have been so confused … The truth is:
Before X-Mas we were asked by Katy if we would like to go on tour with her and we were initially confirmed for the dates in the US but we had to pull out after we left EMI as we figured it would be better to start focusing on the next album after more than 2 years of touring …
We would have loved to go on tour with Katy all over USA and we’re very very very sorry about this whole misunderstanding …
But we hope you understand …
We hope to go to the US and tour in 2009 … Stay tuned !

Who Wore Christian Dior Better? Katy Perry or Tinsley Mortimer
Tinsley Mortimer was also at the star studded New Yorks For Children Spring Dinner Dance on Wednesday night.
She was wearing the same white strapless Christian Dior dress with multi-coloured tulle floral appliqués, which Katy Perry wore to the Christian Dior Spring 2009 presentation during Paris Fashion Week.
Katy carried a white bag, wore lavender suede heels and a strawberry embellished clip in her hair.
Tinsley accessorized with gold accessories, which I prefer, so she wins this for me.
