Covering up: Don't say Katy Perry is worried about swine flu
A dressed-down Katy Perry looked like she was taking the threat of swine flu seriously in Miami – as she held a hat tightly against her mouth.
The I Kissed A Girl singer wore a pink velour tracksuit and hid behind dark glasses as she wandered through the city, clutching at her face.
Her bizarre behaviour comes after details of the potentially deadly flu virus hit the news across the world - prompting thousands to buy protective facemasks.
Under wraps: Katy Perry, dressed in a pink tracksuit and flip-flops, takes off her hat in Miami and puts in over her mouth
The 25-year-old, who is touring Florida seemed eager to keep a low profile – a far cry from her usual flamboyant style.
Last week she was spotted enjoying a summer break with pop singer Rihanna in Barbados.
The pair were pictured in bikinis on board a speedboat during a beach break.
Katy is thought to have been consoling Rihanna after she was allegedly attacked by her then-boyfriend Chris Brown in February.
Katy has previously spoken about her friendship with the singer describing her as a ‘cool chick.’
Keeping her mouth shut: Singer was behaving strangely
‘Of course I consider her a friend, but it's not like 'I'm there,' making a big deal of it, because I feel weird about that type of stuff.
'I'm trying to always be there for my friends,' she said.
She's a really cool chick. I love her style. ... She's one of those unaffected people.'
Meanwhile Katy’s own love life has come back on track recently after she reconciled with boyfriend Travis McCoy.
She split up with the Gym Class Heroes singer just before News Years Eve, but U.S. reports say the pair have rekindled their romance.
Oops, their bad. The Fillmore's website gave out some wrong info. So we'll rectify:
Katy Perrydoes return to Miami Beach -- but on May 7. The Hot N Cold singer will play a free concert as part of the Sidekick-sponsored ``Grammy Celebration Concert Tour.''
It's part of a five-city music tour featuring performances by Grammy-winning and -nominated artists.
And it's free -- sort of. To gain access, you have to visit a T-Mobile store and buy a Sidekick, or show the Sidekick you already own at the door.
Another no-purchase-necessary option: Go play a new game at a T-Mobile store.
Katy Perry: "I kissed a ANOTHER MAN and I liked it"
If I were a malicious person, I would say that SOME of the singers or actors use the fact that they shoot intimate scenes in order to satisfy their personal fantasies. But I’m not!
Still…take Katy Perry for example. In her new clip 'Waking Up in Vegas' like in the ballad 'Thinking of You', she used the 'it's part of my job' excuse to kiss a man. I mean, she looks very determined when she kisses him for us to believe it is only for the clip’s sake. The video was shot by Joseph Kahn, who directed BRITNEY's 'Toxic' single and Pussycat Dolls tune 'When I Grow Up'.
The singer who has recently renewed her relationship with Gym Class Heroes frontman Travis Mccoy is still a foolish girl who doesn’t waste any moment to have fun. And I’m not very sure that Mccoy is very happy about it.
Katy Perry's Fort Lauderdale concert packs girly punch
If Katy Perry had really wanted to kiss a girl, she had plenty to choose from at Revolution Live on Wednesday night. Teen girls, pre-teen girls, moms of teen and pre-teen girls, pairs of girls who seemed to kiss each other on a regular basis - about 80% of the over 1,100 people packing the Fort Lauderdale club were female. And Perry was the bouncing, kittenish, sparkly red sequined princess (with sparkly microphone) reigning over a girl power night.
What kind of power isn't exactly clear, though it's doubtful that any of the ecstatically screaming, waving, singing, pink bow-bedecked fans were analyzing. Perry, whose I Kissed A Girl was one of last year's biggest hits, has clearly hit a chord. She's safe for girls: spunky but not slutty or even, for all her pretty dark-haired looks, terribly sexy; enthusiastic and a little awkward, ready to tell off those bad ol' boys, all with a winking self-mockery.
''This one goes out to all the girls who aren't sluts!'' she shouted, just after doing some disco-style imaginary booty slapping and before launching into Afford Me: ``If you want me you gotta do better than that . . . you can't afford me!''
Barefoot and wearing a tight red sequined sheath, Perry was backed by a male rock quartet in white suits, a set of giant inflatable fruit (bananas were prominent) and a giant inflatable kitty cat (''even though swine flu is in now, kitty flu is coming and you're all gonna be infected tonight!'' she proclaimed).
Live, her songs sounded much the same, churning pop-rock with catchy bounce, and her singing was mostly at the same level too, without the whispery, throaty, expressive gradations she has in her recordings. She sang only two ballads, the generic Thinking of You, and the potentially compelling Lost, where she threatened to dip into some real pain, not that the audience was much interested in listening to any.
Perry mostly and adeptly played to their enthusiasm. She's this oddly charming (if confusing) combination of retro-style, oop-boop-ba-doop sex kitten, wiggly but never going too far, and the forthright girl who won't let a boy mess her around.
''He wants to make out with me, but he doesn't want to call me his girlfriend,'' she said, wagging her finger. ''Girls, let's see those fingers!'' and a whole room full of digits waved back. It's not just her style that's '50s, but her attitude -- it's all about boys, even if they're mean or useless.
For her encore Perry returned in a sequined pink leopard-patterned catsuit, complete with tail and pointy little ears, and a giant inflatable lipstick that she offered -- ''Would you like a taste of my cherry chapstick?'' -- to the squealing crowd (a truly bizarre visual double entendre). In the middle of the hysteria for I Kissed A Girl, Perry climbed into the crowd, balancing on the chest of a stagehand, dozens of slim hands reaching for her as she dipped her face into their frantically upturned faces and kissed one lucky girl. Bet she liked it.
Katy Perry performs Tuesday night at a sold-out Jannus Landing in St. Petersburg. The crowd of people waiting to get into the gate wrapped around the venue. One person interviewed came as early as seven hours before the gates opened.
ST. PETERSBURG ? With her flirty peepers, sly smile and vavoomish figure, pop pinup Katy Perry looks like she sprang to life from the side of a World War II bomber. She has a fruit fetish to rival Carmen Miranda's. She lifts her cartoonish sexuality from early Madonna, her confessional snarl from Alanis Morissette.
The 24-year-old It Girl is made up of racy pop-culture parts, a big reason why her Tuesday gig at Jannus Landing sold out right quick. She's not that original ? something borrowed, something bleepin' blue ? but the saucy Cali girl certainly isn't boring, either.
The fallen daughter of pastor parents, the former gospel rocker twirled, skipped and flirted her way through a silly, satisfying 70-minute set of innuendo and catchy synth rock. The crowd of 1,200-plus ? made up of teens, tweens and patient parents ? warbled along to every lyric, hooted at every naughty word and giggled at her inflatable menagerie of cherries, strawberries and lipstick.
Oh, and a blowup banana ? how could you forget that?
Much like her sweet-sour persona on platinum debut One of the Boys, Perry charmed with stories about growing up at "Christian skate" parties ? and even led a mass Hokey Pokey ? but followed with a wicked f-bomb in describing an ex. (As a rock critic I smiled; as a parent ? yikes.)
Dressed in a plunging leopard-print top, sparkly skirt and black nylons, Perry worked through all her songs. Yes, there are only about a dozen of 'em, but half are hits. With a voice that is yelpier, screamier live, she admonished lame dates with Ur So Gay and Hot N Cold, sold the joys of Sin City in Waking Up in Vegas then got all soft and lovey with the ballad Thinking of You.
Her lyrics are about girl power, and Perry dutifully hired a cute-boy backing band ? dressed all in white like humble servants ? that she treated like props.
For an encore, Perry covered Queen's Don't Stop Me Now, her best vocal performance and a reminder that she's here to stay (or at least she thinks so). And while dressed in a skin-tight feline suit she closed with I Kissed a Girl, a big booming ode to situational lesbianism.
As Perry leaned into the crowd, her followers reached for her, adoring her, knowing that the fast-rising star won't be playing small clubs much longer. Sooner or later, she'll hit the arenas, the stadiums, and that blowup banana will only get bigger.
