The fourth seat at the "American Idol" auditions judge's table has welcomed some of the hottest stars this summer. Simon Cowell tells "Extra" he especially enjoyed working with "feisty" pop rocker Katy Perry.
Cowell reluctantly revealed the "Waking Up in Vegas" songstress wasn't afraid to stand up to him during the judging process. "She's a feisty little thing," he dished. Adding, "She's quirky. Definitely got her own opinion."
Simon explained, "Solo artists are not used to people disagreeing with them. They are feisty and I like that."
Cowell is the headstrong and honest judge on the panel, but he says he still won Perry over. "I don't think she knew quite how right I was until she sat next to me," he confidently declared.

KATY PERRY
Katy Perry rose to fame in 2007 with her internet hit "Ur So Gay" (a withering kiss-off to a metrosexual ex, a song that even the Queen of Pop, Madonna grew fond of) and later scored in 2008 her breakthrough single "I Kissed a Girl" (a provocative ode to the beauty of women that ruled radio over the summer of 2008). The song became an all-format hit shooting to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 where it stayed put for seven straight weeks and tied The Beatles' Capitol Records record for weeks at No. 1. The video was nominated for five MTV Video Music Awards, including a nod for Perry for "Best New Artist" and became the No. 1 most viewed music video of 2008 on MySpace. A No. 1 airplay smash in 22 countries and the 2009 People's Choice award winner for "Favorite Pop Song," "I Kissed A Girl" has sold more than six million tracks worldwide. Perry was also voted "Best New Artist" by readers of Rolling Stone and PerezHilton.com.
Shortly after the “I kissed a Girl” fever, Perry released her first album, “One of the Boys”- a witty romp through Perry's brightly colored world that showcases her sharp, candid lyrics, big voice, and feisty, girl-power swagger, as well as her appealing vulnerability on songs. And the rest was history.
BOYS LIKE GIRLS
Boys Like Girls gained mainstream recognition when they released their self-titled debut album Boys Like Girls. They were the co-headliners with Good Charlotte for the Soundtrack of Your Summer Tour 2008 that toured across the U.S. The group's second studio album Love Drunk, is currently scheduled for a September 8, 2009 release date.
In comparison with the majority of their peers, Boys Like Girls has a more radio-friendly pop rock sound. Hence, Boys Like Girls has been labeled "an album full of hit singles" or "the soundtrack to summer", emphasising the up-and-coming quartet's potential to write mainstream compatible tunes. Other reviewers considered "a watered-down copy of Jimmy Eat World" a more adequate description.[24] In general, judgments ranged from predictable mediocrity to promising newcomer debut, though not necessarily in terms of longevity.
Check them out at the MTV World Stage Live In Malaysia which premieres this September 4, 2009 at 5pm on MTV Philippines. Catch show repeats on Friday, Sept 4 at 530pm; Sunday, Sept 6 at 8pm; Saturday, Sept 12 at 5pm; Wednesday, Sept 23 at 7pm; Thursday and October 1 at 2pm.

"There's one band"— Katy Perry gushes between songs— "who is the reason why I do anything I do." Oh, I'm thinking, This is probably gonna be good. She gives a dramatic pause, "...and that's Queen."
Huh. Really?
Perry launches into a cover of Don't Stop Me Now, Queen's "havin' a good time" anthem and I'm thinking, this babe is one mess of contradictions. She professes her love for a band whose gay lead singer passed away from AIDS, minutes after exhorting her young fans, with no compunction whatsoever, to sing along to the chorus of her single UR So Gay, which starts with the lyrics "I hope you hang yourself with your H&M scarf / while jacking off listening to Mozart."
A couple songs later in her set she shouts, "This song's for all the good girls who don't give it away." Okay, Katy, whatever you say, but 'cept I'm pretty sure I heard those other two songs that referenced motel keys and spending the night, and I'm pretty sure you're not married.
A big crowd came out at 1:45 in the afternoon for Ms. Perry, who rocked the pin-up girl look she rocks so well in a vintage-looking white and blue be-bustled bathing suit, flanked on stage by plenty of kitschy inflatable plastic items. I ask the fifteen year old boy next to me if Katy Perry is his favorite band. "No, I'm just here for my girlfriend." And where is she? "In the pit."
This little lady knew all the words to "I Kissed a Girl"
The pit is passionate about Katy for sure, but the bleachers are far more lukewarm, many people barely watching the stage. "She seems contained," an older gentleman says to his adult daughter. "I'm way more excited about the sign language interpreter," says the daughter. I try to snap a picture of the sign language interpreter and it's true, Katy has a powerhouse belt and she stomps around the stage energetically, but the interpreter brought a level of sarcasm and irony to Perry's lyrics. Perry, for the most part, seems to lack self-awareness. There's no self-reflection at all.
The sign language interpreter.
Katy capped her virgin Bumbershoot performance with the song that made her who she is, I Kissed a Girl. "And you better believe I'm coming down there to kiss one lucky lady!" Oh reeeeeallly? I thought, expecting her to be all talk. But kiss a girl she did, with gusto, climbing down into the pit and laying a long one on a flushed fan.
Three thirteen year old girls next to me started shrieking, "Ew, ew, EW! She's doing it! She's kissing a girl!" But they seemed a little more excited than 'phobic, like maybe on some subconscious level they envied Katy's audacity; maybe on some level they even envied the girl that she kissed.
As the crowd dribbled away from the stage I picked up my bag, now wet from the ground, and heard a girl saying to what I think was her boyfriend, "She's not the greatest singer. But can we please find someone that looks like her for me to make out with?"
VMA: 2009 Best Female Video Award Nominees
The 2009 MTV Video Music Award nominees for Best Female Video are Pink (So What), Beyonce (Poker Face), Lady Gaga (Single Ladies), Katy Perry (Hot n Cold), Kelly Clarkson (My Life Would Suck Without You), Taylor Swift (You Belong With Me).
All of the female singers nominated here deserve to win but who will stand out this Sunday night? Will it be Taylor Swift, who conquered the CMT award?
Pop star KATY PERRY has sparked rumours she is set to marry her boyfriend TRAVIS MCCOY - after she was spotted wearing a diamond ring on her wedding finger.
The longterm lovers split in December (08) after a string of arguments over the Hot N Cold singer's hectic tour schedule but they reconciled just months later in April (09).
Now it looks as if the pair could be taking its relationship to the next level after Perry was seen on an evening out in Los Angeles last week (beg31Aug09) sporting a sparkler on her left hand.
The couple was previously forced to deny engagement rumours in 2008 after a New York tabloid reported that the Gym Class Heroes frontman had proposed during a trip to France over the summer (08).
