Kristen Stewart, Miley Cyrus And Katy Perry Are Poised For A Huge 2010
Our female Pop Week MVPs have a lot planned to stay on top this year.
Now that we've gotten to know more about this year's female and male Pop Week rookies, it's time to see what the more established celebs will be up to in 2010. What will female MVPs like Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and Kristen Stewart be doing to pass the time in the coming 12 months? MTV News investigates.
What She's Up to in 2010: She just got engaged to Brand and is currently in the studio working on her new album. She's already hooked up with Max Martin, Dr. Luke and Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo for the album, which she promises will be different from One of the Boys. On January 27, Perry will appear as a guest judge on "American Idol," and on January 31, we'll see if she can collect on that Grammy. Choice Quote: "I'm doing my record as 'Lovefool' by the Cardigans and Ace of Base," Perry said of her upcoming album. "I want to make songs that people want to hold hands and roller skate to."
Kristen Stewart Age: 19 Hails From: Los Angeles In 2009: She ruled the box office with "New Moon" and dominated gossip blogs, thanks to all the rumors about her relationship with co-star Robert Pattinson. She had everyone talking about her look and her personal life and she insisted that fans, and the media, should focus more on her work than her persona. Why She'll Be Huge in 2010: As if releasing "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" in June isn't enough to have everyone excited, she's in two more buzzed-about flicks: She'll reteam with Dakota Fanning for the rock biopic "The Runaways," and she's going to get edgier playing a stripper in "Welcome to the Rileys." Choice Quote: "I'm, like, vibrating," Stewart said about her turn as the legendary Joan Jett in "The Runaways." "I'm just so excited about that movie."
Miley Cyrus Age: 17 Hails From: Nashville In 2009: She released the EP Time of Our Lives and took over the airwaves with her hit "Party in the U.S.A." She also quit Twitter, was a hit at the box office with "Hannah Montana: The Movie," went on a successful tour and had everyone talking about her relationship with ex Nick Jonas and her controversial performance at the Teen Choice Awards. What She's Up to in 2010: She announced she'll be ending "Hannah Montana" after season four, but with a year left in the series, fans shouldn't expect her to go anywhere on the small screen. She's set to release her more mature flick, "The Last Song," in which she plays rebellious teen Veronica Miller, in April. She'll also make a cameo in the sequel to the "Sex and the City" movie this spring. Plus, she's hard at work on some new music, which she says will be very different from her signature pop sound. Choice Quote: "I changed a lot when I was in Tybee Island [Georgia, filming 'Last Song']. I feel like art really does imitate life," she said. "So just showing this movie, I feel like I'm really showing a part of my growth as a person as well. So I'm really excited for people to see it, just because of what it means to me, personally." Celebrities Rush to the Altar - Is It for Love or Money?
In less than four months, Katy Perry and Russell Brand have gone from dating to engaged. The courtship began in September following the MTV Music Awards, and the couple's whirlwind romance has us wondering why they're rushing to the altar. For their sake, we hope it's true love. But in Hollywood where most romances fizzle quickly, we want to make sure no hearts get broken. Experts chat with PopEater about why Hollywood stars keep rushing into marriage and the looming trouble ahead with these quickie nuptials.
In a world where celebrity divorce is considered the norm, the public is quick to judge celebrities who appear to be rushing into marriage. Perry and Brand's engagement seems pretty lax compared to Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom, who tied the knot after a month-long courtship.
Lori Gorshow, a dating relationship coach and President of Dating Made Simple, points out to PopEater that the honeymoon courtship of any relationship is about three years, but for celebrities in Hollywood, it's accelerated. "What most people experience in 3 to 5 years, celebrities will face all in one year," she says. "What may seem like a whirlwind romance is actually innocent and normal," but Gorshow still thinks some Hollywood stars rush into marriage just for exposure.
Whether A-list couples are truly in love or not, it's no secret that money can buy love for some. When stars hook up, it draws attention to them leading to an "economic boom" in celebrities' careers and pocketbooks, Gorshow says.
Reports alleged that Odom and Kardashian's $1 million wedding was paid for by one man, Ryan Seacrest -- who produces 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians'. Every moment was caught on tape and aired during a special one-hour special. And OK! Magazine reportedly paid out close to $300,000 to have exclusive photos from the wedding.
In the same vein, celebrities can get pretty much anything they want, when they want it -- even when it comes to love. Who can forget Britney Spears' two whirlwind marriages in 2004? First, Spears married childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander on January 3, 2004, at The Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas -- and had it annulled only 55 hours later. Then in July 2004, Spears announced her engagement to Kevin Federline, three months after they met. While we truly think Spears was looking for love, that relationship began the downward spiral of her career.
On the positive side, Tom Cruise proposed to Katie Holmes three months after they started dating. Critics were quick to judge, predicating they'd never make it. Proving naysayers wrong, Cruise and Holmes celebrated their third wedding anniversary in November.
Even Kyra Sedgwick joked with About.com reporters, saying waiting ten months for a proposal from Kevin Bacon felt like an eternity. "He said, 'Will you marry me?' I thought, 'What took you so long? We've been going out for 10 months already.'" The couple have been married over 21 years.
Although Hollywood couples have a lot stacked against them, Perry and Brand can make relationships work if they're really in love, says DeAnna Lorraine, a professional dating coach and matchmaker. "They need to sit down and figure out why they are choosing this person for life... Once the infatuation cools down, lots of celebrities end up disappointed and move on."
"Celebrity couples also need a strategy for overcoming the hard times because there are always going to be rocky moments, but they need to figure out how they'll overcome that as a team."
Katy Perry Is the New (Acne-Free!) Face of Proactiv
Proactiv Solution, the world’s best-selling pimple-fighting beauty regimen, probably also boasts the longest and most renowned list of celebrity spokespeople—especially with the just-announced additions of Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne and Jenna Fischer to their lineup. WWD reports that the trio of stars will join Proactiv’s famous pitchpeople — which already include Mandy Moore, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Julianne Hough — by touting the acne remedy with televised one-minute, two-minute, and 30-second commercials launching later this month. They’ll be compensated handsomely in return, as company exec Ben Van de Bunt confirms, “We are paying people consistently with what we have done in the past, which is millions of dollars.” Perry, Lavigne, and Fischer’s new gig will last at least a year, and expect to see the ads airing worldwide, as the line is carried in more than 58 countries. Truth be told, we hear that snagging famous faces doesn't come cheap.
"We are paying people consistently with what we have done in the past, which is millions of dollars," says Ben Van de Bunt, Co-Chief Executive Officer of Guthy-Renker, which owns the brand. Van de Bunt adds the contracts are for at least one year, with an option to extend.
The infomercial-selling line isn't just transforming celebs; it has rejuvenated its own look for the new year to keep top competitors like Johnson & Johnson's Clean & Clear from nipping at its heels with infomercial spots of their own. Proactiv's star ingredient – benzoyl peroxide – has been refined into microcrystals for quicker absorption by pores, and the packaging has been redesigned for a sleeker style and feel.
And if you're up late at night noshing on munchies while flipping through infomercials, you'll be able to consult with a Proactiv product specialist no matter what the hour, starting January 29th.
It's no wonder the brand has become the number one selling acne system in the world; you can order the stuff faster than a Domino's pizza.
Katy Perry and Avril Lavigne Hate Zits, Promote Proactiv
Look at Katy Perry's clean, acne-free face. And Avril, with her smooth skin. Think that's genetic? A result of perfect breeding and lots of hydration? Wrong! These ladies hate zits! And they are about to get a lot of money to tell you just how much they despise blackheads and blemishes very soon. Perry, Lavigne, as well as Office star Jenna Fischer just signed deals to be the new spokespeople for Proactiv, Guthy-Renker's acne-prevention line. While the celebrity contracts are worth millions on their own, Proactiv is spending another $200 million on television advertising this year, just another facet of its quest to become the world's top acne-fighting system. That means tons of commercials. Probably too many: We haven't even had a chance to get Jessica Simpson's pimply-chin Proactiv commercial out of our heads yet. That one never seems to be going away.
Ever since Miley Cyrus made her sudden exit from Twitter (a decision she has stuck to), there has been a Fail Whale-sized void in the MTV News tweetiverse. But the role of top tweeter could rest on the shoulders of Katy Perry, whose feed has been a fountain of excellence as of late. It helps that Perry leads a profoundly fascinating life: Hanging out in London with fiancé Russell Brand, traveling to India to get her picture taken in front of the Taj Mahal, working in the studio with Dr. Luke and constantly craving In-N-Out Burger.
But perhaps one of the most honest and endearing things about the feed is Perry's cat obsession. She's more than a little fixated on her kitten (whose name is Kitty Purry, an absolutely phenomenal pun) and will often tweet about the status of the cat. She recently introduced Kitty Purry to a new cat, which apparently did not go well. "Kitty, stop hissing at your new boyfriend!" she wrote. "Hmmm maybe she's not into dudes!" (That would be an appropriate result for a girl who had a hit with "I Kissed a Girl.")
Earlier today, she posted a picture of a cat with an apparent haircut (and a dramatic one at that). "What have I done?" she wrote. Did Katy Perry shave her cat? Or did a groomer just get a little carried away? Either way, the enclosed photo is one of the best we've ever seen.
So keep up the good work, Katy. Keep tweeting with Perez Hilton and making references to Alanis Morissette singles — we need it.
We’re starting to really believe Katy Perry might be pregnant! Just yesterday news broke that she and fiancé Russell Brand were seen shopping at a baby store in London and looking at booties.
After that, the two got lunch and a source says, “They then went to Cafe Rouge for a bit of lunch.
Katy ordered scrambled eggs and asked for the eggs to be ‘well done’. And when Russell asked for a portion of chips she loudly announced to the waiter, ‘Hold the mayo’.”
As you may already know, pregnant women are picky about food, especially in the first trimester.
And now photographers claim to have caught the cute couple coming out of a medical center in Los Angeles, and that Katy was there for her first sonogram!
Sources tell X17 online, "Katy looked positively radiant when she stepped out of the doctors office, and while she wouldn't comment on her pregnancy, her face said it all!"
We hope the news is true! Katy and Russell seem so happy with each other!
Katy Perry Asked About Pregnancy Rumors At Il Cielo
January 13th, 2010: Katy Perry was spotted leaving Il Cielo Wednesday afternoon. She was greeted by a swarm of paparazzi, all asking her about the rumors that she is pregnant. She remained tight-lipped as she finagled her way to her car.
Though X17 photographers spotted Katy Perry leaving the doctor's office in Century City after what was believed to be her first sonogram today, Katy's publicist is now denying that she's pregnant.
We'll take her word for it, but we're definitely going to be keeping our eye on the songstress, who remained tight lipped as photogs asked about her rumored pregnancy. I mean, come on - anyone who gets engaged to Russell Brand THAT quickly must have something they're not telling us, right?
Despite the rumors circulating online, Katy Perry is not pregnant. See Katy Perry and 2009's other best dressed stars
The star's rep tells UsMagazine.com that reports claiming Perry -- who got engaged to Russell Brand on New Year's Eve in India -- was getting a sonogram and showing off a baby bump were "not true." See Katy Perry's engagement ring!
Plus, the singer, 25, took to her Twitter account to say that she was on "my period" Wednesday evening.
"Better luck next month peepz," she posted. See Russell Brand and other men with bad haircuts!
Still, Perry didn't do much to squash pregnancy rumors this past Sunday, when she and her fiance scoped out booties at a baby boutique in North London.
