The nominee reveals how she'll make her mark performing 'I Kissed a Girl.'
Back in January, Katy Perry promised MTV News that her Grammy night performance would include fruit. At first, it seemed like she may have been fooling around, but Perry turns out to be a woman of her word.
"I'm going to be ascending from the ceiling," she told MTV News Saturday night at the Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Gala. "By banana!"
But that isn't the only trick that the Grammy nominee has up her sleeve for her performance of "I Kissed a Girl." She also plans on including some retro choreography in her routine. "It's a little 1940s Folies Bergère/ Rockette [style]," she explained. "It's definitely not [like Britney Spears' 2001 VMA performance of] 'I'm a Slave 4 U' or something like that. No anacondas on my neck. It's definitely hopefully going to be one of those moments."
On this rainy weekend in Los Angeles, Perry has been busy getting ready for the show instead of hitting the party circuit. "I've been getting my rest and doing rehearsal," she said. "I'm nervous! I have this little sick-to-my-stomach feeling. I think it's a healthy feeling."
On a night chock-full of superstar collaborations, Perry won't exactly be on her own. She's the featured artist for the "My Grammy Moment" contest, which will broadcast the winning videos of fans singing her song while she's onstage.
"If I was a 12-year-old kid and pushed record and had my video appear on the Grammys as I'm sitting there eating popcorn, I would have fainted," she said. "[I would have been] blown away!"
Will Lil Wayne grab all the gramophones? Is Katy Perry going to tell her girl rivals to kiss off? Can Coldplay march off with a win? MTV News is all over the 51st Annual Grammy Awards, so stay tuned for interviews, analysis and more before, during and after the big night, Sunday, February 8.
Grammys dress report: Katy Perry goes for old school glamour
True to form, Katy Perry went for a 50s vibe while at the Grammys last night, but brought her look right up to date with an oversized corsage details and ruffles.
Her red carpet success was a close shave, though; "I did have a previous dress ready to go tonight that might have ended up `worst dressed'," she explained. "...it came in the mail, because I had it custom-made of course -- because I didn't want anyone wearing that dress, ever -- and it wasn't right. And it was the day before the Grammys."
Luckily her stylist found the pink frock by Lebanese designer Basil Soda and saved the day. Phew.
Too bad she didn't have anyone on hand to persuade the judging panel to give her an award - she left the ceremony empty-handed.
2009 Grammys - The Good: Katy Perry, Duffy, Jennifer Hudson,
The Grammys see some celebrities go through several costume changes throughout the evening, but our favourite of them all had to be Katy Perry's pink Basil Soda dress. It's on just the right side of extravagant, and we love her classic Hollywood style hair and makeup too.
Look under the jump for some more of the Grammys looks we liked...
Duffy has a certain tried and tested style that she never strays too far from. It's a look that works well for her, though, so we think we can let her off with it...
Times have been tough for Jennifer Hudson recently, but she still managed to shine in this fitted black and white dress and some fabulous eye makeup.
Katy Perry's Pink Basil Soda Red Carpet Dress ~ Hot or Not?
Katy Perry wore a pretty interesting gown this evening - a pink floaty creation from Basil Soda that had quite a lot of ornamentation in the front. Normally I'd say it was busy, but considering the context of the Grammy's (I remember one year when Lil' Kim showed up bare breasted) this is actually fairly sedate. So I'm interested to know what you think? (beauty shot is below poll).
Katy Perry sizzling performance at Grammy Awards 2009
Katy Perry Grammy Awards 'I Kissed a Girl' Music
Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson better known as Katy Petty, who is an American singer, songwriter and also a musician.
In the last Grammy Award, she performed on the hit song "I Kissed a Girl", this song had been Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in the same Award. When she performing on the song, the show people were singing the same song at that time as a background and scene was fulfilled fruit, and make part of her style.

Katy Perry has fulfilled her promise to deliver fruity performances.
The I Kissed A Girl singer arrived on stage at the Grammy Awards in a glittering giant banana, emerging to reveal she was wearing a Carmen Miranda-inspired fruity outfit.
"I had the idea about a year ago," she said, adding that she was surprised the event organisers agreed to it.
"I was like really? I can descend from the ceiling in a glittering banana into a fruit bowl of androgynous dancers?"
But even though the whimsical set was inspired by her design, Katy was having some last-minute second thoughts before the show went on.
"I was definitely really nervous up there in that banana," she said. "It was like before I had my first kiss: I didn't know what it was going to be like or if they were going to judge me."
When the 51st Grammy showed Katy Perry sing, yesterday.
They butchered her song, 'I Kissed a Girl', throughout her performance, muting off 'girl'.
If any viewer was new to Katy Perry or her song, he might have been guessing: Was she saying "I kissed her ass?"
Well, that word is one of many our censors here have get to grips with in their oh-so-tough job, so that our telly viewers won't fall by the moral wayside and go insane. But, for pete's sake, the word is GIRL. Even if it is a 4-letter word!
Later in the evening I witnessed more air-headed censoring going on in the first scene of Vicar of Dibley on BBC Entertainment. The censors just didn't get the joke, when the secretary was reading out his shorthand very, very slowly. Fortunately I already saw this episode when it was first aired last year.
