Lily Allen and Perez Hilton in Twitter spat
She has exchanged insults with Elton John, Cheryl Cole and Katy Perry, but last night Lily Allen found a new way of engaging in public spats when she went head-to-head with Perez Hilton on Twitter.
The singer, who is at No 1 on the album and singles charts, told the American gossip blogger he was a “parasite” and a “bitter, lonely old queen” after he encouraged his followers on the microblogging site to campaign for Allen to put him in her next music video.
The pop star, 23, who has argued with the blogger before, bit back: “Oh, I'm sorry, we've already cast the jealous and bitter lonely old queen role. Next time eh?”
Hilton, 30, became equally caustic, tweeting: “Jealous of who? David Beckham, maybe. And if I wanted to be a f***** up Brit, I'd rather be Amy Winehouse - who's got talent.”
The exchange continued:
“God, you're like so obsessed with me its embarrassing.”
“Congrats on your album doing well in America, though. It's REALLY HARD to sell copies when u discount it to $3.99. Desperate!”
“It’s also number one everywhere else in the world douchebag. Go away you little parasite.”
“Aw, u can see I've lost weight! I am a littler Perez. But I'm still a big fat c*** - just like U! That's why I lova ya. Xoxo.”
Allen has previously used her MySpace site to attack Hilton after he has posted gossip about her, but last night was the first time she had used Twitter to settle scores.
Running down his Twitter followers, Allen continued: “Gang would imply he actually has friends, oh wait, actually he has Katy Perry who loves him for who he is, and not for the press.”
Hilton hit back: “P.S. Thanks for advertising on my website. I'll take your money (or the label's) anytime!”
Allen replied: “I know you will, and that's what makes you a cheap ass whore. Now leave me alone, stop following me, I'm working. Bye xx.”
But Hilton hadn’t run out of steam and began quoting Allen’s lyrics from new song Not Fair to her: “It's not fair and I think you're really mean! You're supposed to care! It's not fair and it's really not ok.”
Allen, whose latest album is enjoying critical as well as chart success, is famously outspoken.
Last September she told Elton John to "f*** off" in front of a star-studded audience as they hosted the GQ Awards. She has also called Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole a "stupid b****" and has accused Katy Perry of stealing her image.
Twitter has seen a huge surge in popularity among celebrities recently, with Stephen Fry and Jonathan Ross giving fans a steady stream of details about their day-to-day lives via the site.
